5 Reasons To Go Camping This Summer
*Camping Is Fun
*You Can Social Distance
* Explore The Campground And The Surrounding Areas
*Being Outdoors Is Good For Your Mental Health
*It’s An Opportunity to Unplug
Now that you know some of my favorite reasons to go camping this summer, let’s talk about where to stay.
Where To Stay
Camping has come a long way from tent only options. Some of my friends say to me, when they find out I’m going camping, they say: “I can’t picture you camping in a tent.”
While I see nothing wrong with camping in a tent, I prefer a cabin and the comfort of having my own bathroom and being able to enjoy the outdoors at my own leisure.
RVs are also a great option, you can check out our RV Camping adventures below:
In the past three years we have stayed in a Park Model RV:
Beautiful cabins equipped with all the amenities while offering the beauty of opening the door to nature, birds singing and sunshine.
We went camping last week at the Alpine Lake RV Resort.
It’s a beautiful campground resort nestled in the Adirondack Mountains – a short driving distance to Saratoga Springs and Lake George.
Alpine Lake is a summer-focused destination campground that can be booked on RVontheGo.com.
Their more than 40 summer-focused campgrounds across the country offer great destinations for families to get away.
Many of these campgrounds are open seasonally, and all focus on providing family-friendly camping with amenities like swimming pools, hiking trails, sports courts, mini golf and more.
While affiliated with Thousand Trails campgrounds and Encore RV resorts, these campgrounds maintain their own branding and do not fall under the umbrellas of Thousand Trails or Encore.
Here are some of our favorite Park Model RVs:
Park Model RVs (sometimes referred to deluxe Cabins or Cottages) are unique units that provide temporary accommodations for recreation, camping or seasonal use.
Park Model RVs are designed to look like a home, but they need to be hooked up to site electricity, sewer and water like any RV.
They may have a front porch and/or a sleeping loft and are a great way to experience the campground lifestyle if you don’t have an RV or all the gear that goes with tent camping.”
Spacious Kitchen
You know I love grilling while camping but a great cabin kitchen gives you the space to keep eating utensils, plates, cups.
The stove offers a cooking option for cold rainy days which we encountered in our stay in the NY Campground.
The spacious fridge offers the option to store summer treats, ice and the food you planned for your stay.
Lounge Area
You know, quiet time starts at 8PM at most campgrounds, so after the bonfire, we usually play games, lounge and sometimes watch tv until we’re ready for bed.
It’s also great to have a sleeping sofa for extra guests.
Bedroom
We usually bring my son and friends camping with us.
Even though they couldn’t come this time, it’s great having the option to invite friends and having the space to share the fun with people you love!
Bathroom
I’m going to confess, I really love a warm shower after a fun day, no matter how warm the summer day has been! It’s the Latina in me!
Outdoors
For me it’s so important to open my door and have the beautiful outdoor scenery and it’s the reason why I went to the campground in the first place.
It’s why we love camping so much and it always put a smile on our faces!
Nothing better than waking up when camping and grabbing a cup of coffee on my deck or sitting outside.
We were lucky to have a lake view RV Model with special guests!
Meals At The Campground
Even though we have a great stove in most RV models, grilling is always my favorite.
It was a long drive there, so all we wanted was to grill, have an easy camping meal and kick back and enjoy!
I plan my menu to hit the hot coals every night!
Easy and delicious camping meals are always on the menu. You can check out some of my favorite Camping Meals HERE.
Dessert by the fire is also a must do for us! Who doesn’t love some delicious S’mores?
Trust me, they taste better at the Campground!
It never ceases to amaze me how friendly the camping community is and how they welcome you without knowing you!
Hubby and I enjoyed hours of bonfire time! So much so, that a neighbor noticed we were low on wood and came by and dropped off some fire wood for us!
Convenience
The RV Park Model comes fully furnished, with utensils, pots, linens and towels, making packing and the need for a larger vehicle optional on your next camping trip.
Wild Life
A bonus for the animal lover in my is always see wild life while camping.
Birds, geese, blue heron and many fish in the lakes all around us.
Hubby did not bring his fishing rod to the campground (which he regretted), but the lakes in the Alpine Lake RV Resort had many different fish, such as sunnies, bullheads, bass and pickerel.
It rained during parts of our stay, so we didn’t get to take the kayaks/rowboat/canoe out, but there’s always a next time, right?
The private restaurant offers local meals and serves breakfast all day, in case you don’t feel like cooking.
Lew’s On The Lake
The gorgeous pools were also calling our name!
The Campground also offered basketball and tennis courts, but the rain prevented us from using them.
The location makes it a great campground for singles and empty nesters, but we saw many families with children as well.
Fun things for all!
Actually we met three generations of campers who stay seasonally! We loved meeting some families who come every year to enjoy the beautiful campground.
We want to come back, spend more time and hike in the area.
Even though it’s always cooler in the mountains, we were lucky to have mild weather two out of three days while we enjoyed the area.
The campground was definitely our focus with so much to offer, but we headed to Saratoga Springs on the rainy day for a local cup of coffee, a stop at mineral bath in a SPA and a short visit to the car museum.
Additional Tips for Camping in the Summer In The Adirondack Mountains Area:
Camping Clothing
Bring clothing for Fall & Summer Weather, because you never know. We wore sweaters and bathing suits in the three days we spent there.
Always a good idea to bring hiking sneakers or waterproof shoes.
A jacket is always a must as evenings were cool even on the days which we had temperatures reaching high 80s!
What To Bring:
Explore places to buy wood, if you are like us and like spending time by the fire.
We didn’t see a grocery store nearby when I googled the location, so while planning for the trip, we brought a freezer bag and a small cooler with all our food with us.
You can’t go wrong with burgers and hot dogs!
We saved time and unexpected grocery bills.
Do you enjoy camping?
I can’t wait to hear what you think of our camping trip to the the Adirondack Mountains.
We can’t wait to plan our next Camping trip!
I’ve added this sunset picture to my screensaver! Not bad going for a walk after dinner and seeing this view, right?
We want to thank GORVing for another summer camping trip and allowing us to make unforgettable memories together!

Looks divine! I would love to go camping. I’ve been scouring the web for some more easily accessible camp sites because we don’t have a car but would love to enjoy nature with our kids.

Oh yes, it has to be a good way to unplug. Those that have done it before say it’s even enjoyed more when you leave your phone on airplane mode.
Risa Lopez
I love to experience camping with my family. It looks so fun and exciting. We are actually planning to go camping after the rainy season and it will be our first time doing it. I’m so excited!

These cabins are amazing wow…Camping is my favorite Summer activity ever. We usually go to two to three campings a year, we love it.

We all missed going camping, as the restriction is becoming lesser. This is definitely a great time to do this. I’ve agreed on every reason you’ve shared with us especially on unplugging ourselves from the busy world we’re on. Great to isolate in a place that is stress-free with good vibes!
Ramil Hinolan
I love the outdoor and camping is a great way to enjoy the nature and wild life. I am not into camping but I guess I will now.
Jennifer Prince
The opportunity to unplug is one of the best reasons. It’s why I love camping – getting in touch with nature and detoxing a bit.
Melanie E
Camping does sound like a great way to get away and relax. I’ve never been but have been considering glamping. Using an RV might also work well.
Stephanie
Since we typically tent camp, and it’s 110+ degrees here right now, we won’t be camping during the summer. We have considered going cabin-camping, though. As you said, you have space and a bathroom which is definitely worth it! Especially if that cabin has a/c.
Beth
Well, now I’m getting the itch to camp again! We usually go once or twice a year. We do campgrounds, which I prefer. I’m not a fan of “roughing” it. Well, not THAT rough anyway.
