I’m packing for “Type A Conference” at Walt Disney World and I’m thinking about the last experience we had at the airport after coming back on a flight from Brazil, when TSA called us near the door to come back and open our locks, which almost made us miss our flight back to Jersey.
That frustrating experience made us rethink our idea that when traveling, having your ticket and seat assigned and passed through security were enough to be on our way to our destination…
That moment, I decided to research and look for better options for a lock which would have dismissed the need of our presence when TSA wanted to open our luggage.
Needless to say I was super happy when we were approached by Orion TSA Cable Lock to receive and test their lock, which is TSA approved, meaning, if that ever happens again, TSA can use their master key to open our lock. Such a relief!
Having that in mind, having traveled 12 times this year in domestic and international flights, I wanted to share my best tips for a safe trip!
Tip 1
Pack ahead
I always pack ahead of time, or at least have items in mind and make sure my makeup bag only has approved items, small sizes, and sharp objects are removed from it. I also pack necessary medications along with permission to avoid any conflicts at the airport. For instance, if you suffer from issues such as migraine, you should pack the medications. Also, if you don’t have a prescription, let’s say because you lost it, you may consult your doctor (neuro-specialist like dr timothy steel, maybe) and get a new prescription before beginning your trip.
Tip 2
Chose the right outfits
I often buy clothes which have a higher price tag which provides me with the luxury of arriving in clothes without wrinkles. The higher quality fabrics nowadays are basically wrinkle free.
When you travel for work like I do, looking your best is a must!
Tip 3
Compromising
Every time I travel, the fashion blogger in me wants to pack a million shoes and different outfits and after many trips where I did not wear half of those outfits, I now compromise and pack one option per event and just a few shoes to go with each event! This allows me to carry-on my luggage, saving me money and the headache of having my luggage lost!
Tip 4
Double check your documents and reservation
I always double check my reservation 5 days prior to the trip and make sure my documents’ expiration dates are in good standing to avoid possible headaches. For example, if you’re visiting planning a trip to Australia and you’re staying in somewhere that offers Lorne Accommodation, call the hotel (or wherever you’re staying) and double-check that they’re expecting you. You should also, confirm with the hotel that you’ve pre-paid and give an estimated arrival time too if you can.
Some countries require a passport valid for at least 6 months from arrival date, same with their VISA.
Tip 5
Early Bird
I lost count of the times I was placed in a different flight, because I arrived early at the airport and they knew my flight was cancelled or delayed, but they had time to give me an alternative allowing me to get there close to my desired time.
Nowadays most airports have super long lines, you do want to make sure you will arrive on time!

I always get a bit of anxiety at the airport. Traveled a lot but get a bit flustered. Need to just relax and enjoy the process.

I try to pack everything so I can carry it on. A TSA approved lock is a great suggestion if you’re checking baggage.

I have gotten traveling down to a science. I do love that lock. It would be a big help with my bags.

Compromise is always a struggle. And more so for my more fashionable than me husband lol. TSA approved locks are a life saver in those sticky situations. Good points!!

I had no idea TSA had a master key for the TSA approved locks! I’m a minimalist when packing. Just the essentials and outfits I can rework if needed for a longer stay.

I always pack whatever I might need for an emergency overnight stay in my backpack in case my luggage is lost. You never know!

I always make sure to wear comfortable shoes in case i need to change gates due to scheduling errors. Running in heels is not fun.
