Since I moved to the US, I have been hesitant to put my feet in the water, because I’m used to 80/90 degree Ocean Water in Brazil. That also keeps me in my comfort zone and every time I contemplate the ocean, it’s a platonic relationship, I love you, but at a distance and I will not be leaving my comfort zone to embrace you. Lately I decided that I would only place my feet…
These past 4 weeks, I have totally left my comfort zone and embraced a journey of finding out who I am, what I’m capable of, leaving behind the fear of writing because people will criticize my mistakes or improper use of prepositions (which always confuses me …) even though I write in 4 languages. The need for new income sources at our household and new influences in my life fueled my writing/blogging passion and my pursuit to develop this as a business, which has until now been a dormant passion!
I started writing when I was 17. I wanted to be a book writer. I read all the classics, mostly Brazilian literature and acquired a taste for American literature after I moved here. Reading is my life! You will never see me without a book or three! Reading gives me new perspectives and possibilities that I would otherwise have missed. Reading FB statuses inspire me, reading people’s insights on business and marketing always empowers me to use that knowledge and set my feet more and more into the cold, uncomfortable waters.
I have been amazed by the positive difference it has brought to my blogs and my life. So much so, that I decided to celebrate and take it from a metaphor to literally placing not only my feet but my ankles in the water in the coming weekend – as a commitment and celebration to new steps in my business and personal journeys. If it worked for my feet, can you imagine my ankles?
I’m not saying it will be a pleasant experience. But I know for sure, experimenting will give me a new much wider angle and open more doors to new experiences in my life!
When was the last time you placed your feet in the water? Would love to hear about it! Are you ready to do it?

Great job! It is good to step outside of your comfort zone and try new things. I have been to the Caribbean and the water is so much cleaner than the water in the east coast and gulf coast. I haven’t traveled to the west coast yet, so I dunno how the water looks. The water is picture perfect in the Caribbean and you can actually see your feet.

I know, Christy! I come from Brazil, where the water is clear as well. NJ water is dark, but I’ve come to enjoy it! Thank you so much for coming to visit my blog!

This is a great post. So glad I found your blog.
I also like what Aida said in her comment above.
Thanks for sharing, Claudia.

So love this Claudia. I have a picture at the start of every vacation of just my feet: in the sand, in the water, in slippers–doesn’t matter. My kids often say “come in Mom!” And I say..I’m happy just with my feet in the water. Till I read your post, thought nothing about the poetry of it! Thanks!

Thank you, Christine! I’ve always had hesitation to write post sharing personal things, since deeper thoughts require language skills I’ve always had feared I had not mastered….I grew up speaking Portuguese, the other languages came from formal instruction, I moved here in 2001. This was my first attempt to not only share my fears, but my victories….I’m so glad you liked it! 🙂

What a journey! Thanks for the inspiration. Putting my feet in the water is something that I too need to work on.

We all do, Lauryn, one step at a time!

Go for it! I am always amazed by people who speak more than one language – and a bit jealous. Putting your feet in the water (both literally and figuratively) is hard sometimes but almost always worth it! 🙂

Thank you for the words of encouragement, Jo-Lynne! 🙂
Colleen (Souffle Bombay)
Good for you on all counts! 4 languages! That is amazing – you can do anything!

Thank you, Colleen!

I am watching you stretch and go and it is an amazing site to see. Most of us don’t live our best lives or anything close to them. Live your life without regrets, people will talk about you the rest of your life, at least giving them something spicy to share… 😎

Thank you!

I feel your pain. I never get in the water either. Well, I did when I lived in Miami, but in New Jersey no way. Keep the good work and maybe next year you can go all the way to your knees. lol.

Thank you!
