My Lasagna is in the oven, cooking through this hard time of watching the AC Boardwalk being destroyed and so many shore towns completely wiped by the storm which is not even here yet…..
As I was pondering on what to make for dinner, since they say there’s a high probability of us losing power around 8pm, I decided to cook one of my favorite comfort dishes, my mom’s recipe, the Brazilian lasagna, always a favorite Sunday meal in Brazil!
I must warn you, it is a time consuming dish, but totally worth it!
Ingredients:
1 large onion and 1/2 onion chopped
3 cloves of garlic, minced
1 pound of ground beef
1 tsp of coriander seed, cumin and paprika
1 tsp of nutmeg
1tsp of black pepper
1/2 cup of corn starch dissolved in water.
2 cups of milk
1 stick of butter
salt to taste
1 jar of homemade or store bought tomato sauce
1/2 pound of boiled ham
1 pound of mozzarella cheese
3/4 package of lasagna noodles cooked
Olive Oil
Preparation:
Bolognese Sauce
Heat a casserole with olive oil garlic and onion (1 clove, 1/2 chopped onion), place ground beef, paprika, coriander seeds and cumin and salt to taste and cook until golden brown, add tomato sauce after meat is cooked and bring it to a boil.
Bechamel Sauce
Melt butter and bring onions and garlic to a golden color, add nutmeg, black pepper, place cold milk and corn starch and stir until boiling, make sure to stir well, to prevent bubbles.
Place bolognese sauce on the Pyrex bottom, , place 3 noodles on top and place ham on top of noodles, then bechamel sauce, noodles, cheese on top of it, layers until it is covered and place both sauces mixed and sprinkle cheese or cheese slices on top of the sauces and bake it for at least 40min on 375 oven or until boiling on the sides.
Sooo good!
