I know, kids grow older and these days, it seems harder and harder to get them out of their devices and out of the house. So, we’ve made a special effort to use special holidays like Christmas as a way to spend more time together. Here are some Christmas Traditions To Share With Teens.
Christmas Traditions To Share With Teens
Music
We love singing! My husband plays the guitar, my son used to play the piano really well and sings all day long, so we make sure on Christmas that we bring music as a way to connect as a family.
It also helps me bring back traditions from Christmases in Brazil!
Hubby grabs the guitar, we grab the lyrics and the sing along begins.
I even grab some small gifts for “best singing” prize.
Here is an audio that my son, husband and I recorded for my students, when I used to own a foreign language school.
Hope you enjoy!
Cooking
My son loves to make different things for him!
During the holidays, one of his “chores” is to help me bake cookies for our open house!
We end up making crazy aliens among the regular cookies! So much fun!
I also make some traditional Brazilian treats and I get to share them with hubby and son!
Here are some of favorites Brazilian Christmas Recipes.
Go Outside
I know it’s cold outside and specially when it’s snowing, the last thing you want is to step outside right?
Wrong!
I plan ahead different activities every year! So there is nothing stopping you from planning something simple or big like renting a limo (through RPD Limo or similar companies) and having a great time.
This year we’re heading to Philly to watch the Comcast Building Lights!
We’re also going to take a train to memory lane and drink cocoa while caroling!
My son loves eating out and the outlets, so I’m planning a trip to to the outlets in PA, where he can pick out some clothing, we can have a nice dutch meal and end the day watching the lights at Longwood Gardens.
We’ve been there during the day, but never at night!
What’s important is that to find something your teen likes to do and it’s also something the family can do together.
My son likes bowling, so we’re definitely doing that!
If it snows, my son loves going out in the snow, so we’re definitely taking a long walk and ending with hot cocoa!
Of course it all ends with a snow ball fight! Teens are just small kids deep inside!
PJs
We all wear new PJs on Christmas Eve. A tradition since my son very little.
I usually don’t share these pictures, but you guys are special, so here’s last year!
Pictures
I love taking a Christmas Photo by the tree, specially since my son got taller than me! 🙂 So I can brag with the grandkids!
Yes, My son was as tall as the three last year! He grew 3 inches since!
Teens Like To Hang Out
We host an annual Christmas Party.
I set a room for video games on my projector screen, where kids take turns playing.
We usually set different games for different ages.
Teens might also love receiving their favorite video games as holiday gifts, so maybe being out some of the latest ones for them to play. In-game props and items can also be bought for them through shops like yesgamers.com, which could be added happiness to the gaming session!
Teens love hanging out, so I make sure to invite some of my son’s friends to the party.
Travel
My son is not crazy about traveling, but last year we got to preview the Christmas Magic at Disney!
My son loved it! Check it out HERE.
The lights, “snow”, Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party and cocoa in every corner of Magic Kingdom, did the trick!
We also went to Hershey!
What teen doesn’t like chocolate, cookies and an amusement park during the holidays?
It was great visiting the park at night and we even managed a Santa visit!
Santa talked my son into sitting on his lap too! I know! Crazy, right?
Last year we actually had two chats with Santa!
I know what you’re thinking, but my point is not to embarrass him, but to bring him along when work brings me to get our Christmas Spirit on!
If you don’t manage to find anything your teen likes to do, nothing that sparks his/her interest, do what never fails: give them a hug and show them how much you love them!

All good choices! My kids are all grown but I might get them together to do some of these this year!
