A new year comes with the feeling that we have a blank canvas ahead of us, giving us that reset button to change things and better our lives. Today, I’m sharing new and easy steps to a healthier 2020.
I took this picture above a week ago, added it to my vision board as a reminder that I’m on the right track to reach my goals!
I’m not an advocate for resolutions, but every year I renew my goal to live my best, happiest, healthiest life, ever!
For me, it starts with small changes, because every time I’ve tried something super drastic, I haven’t followed through.
2019 was a year of frustration as far as weight loss. I was working out 2-4 x a week, eating small portions, controlling calories and carbs and still the yoyo was on!
I lost 20 pounds and gained it back on…..increased a dress size as well.
But it did not discourage me to live my best life, so I decided to try new things, easy steps to a healthier me in 2020.
Easy Steps To A Healthier 2020
Full Check Up
I decided to go for a full check up, blood test and all, which resulted in a biopsy, but it came out fine, thank God! To be honest, I was actually looking for an at-home blood test service. Some of my friends suggested I search online to find a clinic that allows the same. They told me that several clinics are known to provide an at-home blood test. Moreover, if you are in need of a quick blood test report, such clinics can also get tests delivered to your home quickly. So, I searched thoroughly on the web to find such clinics.
Anyway, I was really happy with my blood test and all. Nothing abnormal in any area, the doctor actually told me, my blood test results are those of a 10 year old!
I went to a gynecologist; she told me, there’s nothing wrong with me, I’m just getting old. The weight is a sign of age….
I refuse to accept that. 🙂
But she asked for new blood tests for my Thyroid – I still have to get those done.
Knowing there’s nothing physically wrong with me, I decided to try new things and keep moving towards a healthier and more fit Me in 2020!
You Are What You Eat
My son is an aspiring athlete, so we as a family (more than ever) have the goal to support his aspirations by eating healthier meals as well. Sticking to this can be hard for some to do especially if they are used to the foods they eat and find it hard to break a habit, that is why little changes are important. You don’t have to stop going out to eat, but you may want to go somewhere with a healthier choice, for instance, a Gyro Restaurant in Astoria or a Sushi restaurant in Manhattan (choice is yours), so you can be aware of what you are putting in your body.
I researched Keto, but I’m not a fan of high fats, a bunch of cheese, butter….meat…..so this is what I have decided to change as far as food intake:
*Reduced Carbs, no bread Mo-Fri
*Reduced Sugar, no desserts Mo-Fri
*Increased water intake
*Added amino and healthy shakes to my meal plan
*Added more soups and hearty salads to my meal plan, to feel fuller and snack less
Key Change: Using More Truvia
I’ve used Truvia for the past 5 years in my coffee and teas. I don’t even remember the last time I used sugar in my drinks.
But I decided to kick it up a notch by using Truvia in recipes!
Unlike other stevia products on the market, Truvia is great-tasting every time.
Here are some benefits of using Truvia :
*Naturally sweet from the stevia leaf.
*Keto-friendly
*No sugar. No calories. No doubts.
Here is one of my favorite Smoothie Recipes:
This recipe is low in carbs, only has low sugar from the protein and natural sugar from the fruits. Only 4 carbs with my protein powder!
Easy Banana Berry Smoothie
Ingredients
1 Banana
1 cup of mixed berries
1 measure of your favorite protein powder
2 Tsps of Truvia
2 cups of water or almond milk
1/2 cup of crushed ice
Preparation
Add fruits first to avoid the powder/Truvia to be left out of the smoothie
Add other ingredients, finishing with ice, which will be crushed first, in my blender
Enjoy a delicious smoothie without the guilt of breaking your health goals!
I use it as a meal replacement or workout recovery smoothie!
I use water or almond milk as the base for my smoothie
You can find more recipes using Truvia HERE.
My son gets cookies & desserts as treats on weekends, so I’m always looking for healthier options! I can’t wait to try some of the cookie/dessert recipes on their site!
Here is a resolution you will keep: resolve to treat yourself to America’s favorite natural, calorie-free stevia sweetener.

Keep Moving
I have increased my exercise routine to 90 mins 4-6 days a week!
I’m actually going to the gym every time I drop my son off to shoot at our local gym!
So far, so good – 7 days working out, since Jan 1st!
Trendy Workout Outfits
I rewarded myself with a couple new Workout Outfits and a new pair of sneakers, because nothing motivates me more than wearing trendy clothes!
So, ditch that old sweat shirt and grab a few pieces to get you going!
Body Boost: Intermittent Fasting
You should consult with your doctor before trying it, but I am loving the results in just one week of intermittent fasting.
This is how it works: By limiting the time that you consume calories, your body becomes more efficient, burns more fat and resets the old habits!
I’ve lost 3 pounds eating New Years’ food and attending multiple parties, but I’m not really trying to focus on the scale, but how I look and feel!
My fasting goes from 9PM – 1oAM, I drink coffee, tea and water when I wake up. First days were terrible, but I got used to it.
I feel my body is finally responding to the other things I was doing and that this will be a game changer for my weight loss.
Some of my friends who have lost 40 pounds doing it, extend their fasting period, but I’m not ready for that yet.

Bananas and berries are a good combination. Like you, I promised myself to reduce my sugar intake, being diabetic and all. It is always best to go on a routine medical check up. That is a good advice you’ve included in this post.

That smoothie recipe looks delish! I must make that soon. The workout outfit is super cute too!

I can relate to this so much! I’ve had blood work done but nothings wrong. I’ve done the fasting for at least 6 months, but that’s not working for me either. I need to get back into a workout regimen because that did work.
Heather
I see a few things on this list that I need to implement for the new year! I’m working on a better me!
