I often catch myself thinking about balance, how to balance work and life, since we are all very connected online, so into technology, gaming and my husband and I both own online businesses which requires long hours plugged in. When blogging came around, it really took my online passion to the next level, since I share every special moment of our lives, good, bad, birthdays, parties, trips, it’s all out in the modern digital era.
What intrigues me is that at the same time, the Latina in me wants to preserve the religion, values, the foundation which often is portrayed as old fashion, basically absent in today’s modern world.
The ideal modern family is all about balance, about blending a strong solid foundation passed down through generations with the comfort and commodity of the digital life; and that is what I try to bring to our family. Keeping our faith, our values, traditions from both cultures alive, not losing sight of it, when life goes on in multiple screens, when a smile is gone, but Instagram crystalizes it to eternity, when you are feeling sad on Facebook in the morning and a family member calls to see if you are ok. That blend of tradition, solid values, face to face communication without being old fashioned. After all, modern shouldn’t be a synonym of low quality of life, lack of communication and loss of family values. I believe it should stand for enhancing those same values, building bridges and shortening distances.
La Familia de Hoy, The Modern Family, Today’s family should be about preserving the old and embracing the new.
Having that in mind, I am very excited to share that Johnson & Johnson and Univision have launched a campaign to find an authentic, modern and active family to become “La Familia de Hoy.”
Three families, different lives, problems, conflicts, happy moments. I checked out the families and chose The Olivera Family, because the mom, Milena is Brazilian, of course, also because I identify myself with her personality and the fact that her family is modern, aspirational, healthy and very loving with a huge passion for soccer and arts.
Join me and log on to Univision.com and vote for your favorite familia to help them become the spokesfamily for Johnson & Johnson in 2014!

Great campaign, J&J! Embracing modern families doesn’t mean getting rid of traditions, I love that you’re focused on preserving your heritage but adapting with the times. The Olivera family is just beautiful.

I think this a pretty cool campaign and think it’s great to see the promotion of diversity.

I love that this company is focusing spotlights on Latino families from all different cultures! The traditions I’ve learned from my Latino friends are so beautiful and have really enriched my life. What a great campaign.

Being of Mexican decent, I often tell stories about growing up or have my kids listen very close when my parents tell stories. My husband is 1/2 Portuguese and half European mix and we try to include so many traditions so they don’t die with my children. Thanks for sharing these stories!

Gotta love Johnson & Johnson! Oh, and I have a friend with the last name Olivera whose husband is a native of Brazil.
