I have a very unique child, I believe we all do!
My son was a premie, so I read all about it while I spent 21 days at the hospital! I was expecting all the normal delays premies have, but he didn’t….he was a late walker, but that’s about it!
He started speaking when he was 6 months! Yes, I have videos!! He has always known what he wanted as far as his passion, which has been technology!
At the age of 9 he decided to open his Youtube Channel to show his games and intros! Hope you have a chance to check it out, since he opened it on his own and uses 4 programs to make the intros, with knowledge that is beyond my understanding!
Here is the intro he made for one of my Disney Cruise recap posts:
You can understand how excited I was to receive the news that he was recently invited to be a part of the HP Gen Z program where Teens will be sharing their love for technology!
For us, it has always been about nurturing his dream! I love this Disney quote:
“All our Dreams can come True.
If we have the courage to pursue them”
He informed us he wants to be an animator! He told us the other day, he want to attend UCLA because “that’s in LA where things happen for animators”! He’s probably right! I just hope he’s first internship is at Disney Studios, but that’s on my vision board, not his…..I believe he’s just excited to get any open doors and jump into the journey to live his dream!
My husband is more like a down to earth kind of guy….you need to get a job…..for me, yes, he needs responsibilities, but I truly believe his path to financial freedom will come, if he does something he really loves and lives his dream and I am here to help make that happen!
This week I watched an interview with the author of “From Cradle To Stage”, Virgina Grohl. She narrates the chronicles of 18 moms of accomplished music industry artists, like Josh Groban and Dave Grohl, her son! What they all have in common is the fact that they supported their children to live their dream and that support was fundamental to allowing them to be who they are!
Here is her book, thought you would like to check it out:
I thought it was important to share my story to encourage other mother’s to nurture their children’s own dreams, embrace their special gifts instead of trying to push extra curricular activities that make you proud, but that some of the children don’t even care for….
We always let our son choose his sport and his activities and don’t push when he tells us, he’s no longer interested in some of them!
Have you ever asked your child if he/she liked to run around like a maniac between soccer, football, other sports, ballet, piano, guitar? Have you? Have you thought for a second that maybe seeing your child doing those things are your dreams, not theirs?
I know we think we know better, but maybe we don’t! Asking our children and really listening is a life lesson, I’ve learned early on, from a very strong willed child!
The fine line is to know when to give them a choice and when to make sure they are making the right ones! I’m still working on that!
Maybe one day I will be writing a book about my son being a famous studio animator, maybe not, what’s important is that I will be able to sleep knowing I did my best to support and encourage his dreams, because I do believe there’s power in them and that they DO COME TRUE!
I can’t wait to hear your side of the story! As usual, give us a Trendy Shout!

Oh goodness, gracious, I could really learn from him. I hope he’ll do a tutorial on how to make intros. It’ is so exciting that he’s being recognized for his talents.

That is truly incredible that he discovered his passion for technology at such a young age. He sounds like my cousin, he doesn’t have a Youtube channel but he is very good with technology and coding and even built his own super computer from scratch when he was 14!

It is so important to support our children when it comes to following their dreams. You son sure is talented and I hope his dreams come true.

I agree, we should provide them with the best support we can give to help them reach their dreams. This is really awesome. I’m sure your son will be an amazing animator someday.
Kat
Awesome news about that invitation! It’s fantastic that someone has noticed his talent and gave him a chance to develop his skills. Well done:)

Your son is amazing! I think it’s great that you are letting him choose his own paths. He definitely has a talent for the intros!

So cool that he is so dang talented, what a gift! It’s nice when our children find something they are so passionate about.
Natasha
I always love seeing parents support their children in things that they are passionate about. I think that it motivates the children to dive even further into learning all the ins and outs of their loves. Good job mom!

Wow, your son is very talented! I’ve always tried to encourage my kids in their dreams – so far they are mostly homebodies though. My oldest has been searching though, and while I had her in dance for many years, I realized that was more my dream. She still talks about it though, and we may give it a try again after a 2 year break to see if it’s something she still enjoys not just me.
My 2nd is convinced she will be President of the US one day, so we talk a lot about politics with her – she’s 9 and going to change the world.
My 7 year old will be a police officer. Is constantly looking for female cops, and absolutely needs a book called “How to be a police officer” so she can start studying now.

That is wonderful that your son has a natural talent. My daughter was also a month early preemie. Now, she is smart as a whip and a little firecracker.

This is such a great reminder to me as my toddler grows into a young man!

This is so wonderful! My son also has a YouTube channel where he talks about gaming and what it’s like living with autism.

You have a great attitude and I think it is great to let your son choose his path with your guidance. I am proud of my kids who love sports and music and I am happy to encourage them.

Love this! I am all for kids using/exploring with technology. I know many disagree, but let’s face it, this is the world we live in today! I also love that he, himself, has ambition and goals. That tells me he has one #awesomemama!

This world desperately needs more moms like you (and me), who tell their (our) children to chase dreams and not dollars. Yes, they need money to survive – but what is life if you spend half of it trapped in a job that doesn’t feel right for you? And fostering your son’s dreams the way you are right now could be the very thing that paves the road to a successful future in his chosen field. #MomGoals.

I LOVE this! It’s important for us not to lose sight of the fact that dreams can come true when we’re raising our kids. It’s all too easy to squash their dreams in favor of more “doable” things.

This is such a great post. I just assume my daughter loves the things I put her in. Maybe I need to stop and really ask her.
