Are you in panic mode? Holidays are just around the corner, I know…..
I’m working to get more organized this year to enjoy holiday time with family and friends and really taking time to appreciate what matters most: spending quality time with loved ones.
I have been working on a “system”, perfected through the years that allows me to just sit and enjoy company during the holiday time!
Today I will share my most secret tips with you:
Prep For the Holiday Tips
#1 Think ahead, means Cook ahead
I often plan my menu two/three months ahead of time, I pin my recipes on the top of the season board, for example Thanksgiving:
[apsp-board-widget board_url="https://www.pinterest.com/ckrusch/thanksgiving-brunch/" custom_size='custom' image_width="220" board_height="610" board_width="720"]
I plan my shopping, all the non perishable items will go in my pantry and by the time the holiday arrives, I have everything but a few items needed.
I hate eating frozen food, so I normally don’t “cook ahead’, but what I mean by cooking ahead is carefully planning your recipes so prep time is done the day before and everything is on the stove and in the oven before the guests arrive.
So whether you are offering that special dish that has been in your family for generations or a super easy dip, preparation is the key to success to warm holiday traditions to be made!
# 2 Cleaning
My house is cleaned every Saturday, so when it’s time for the holidays, all we need to do is get the china and do a more in depth cleaning to ensure everything is in order for the guests and guest bedrooms are ready!
If you don’t have the time and habit of cleaning your home every week, I recommend you divide the work in weeks and start working on it, two months ahead of time and cross rooms off of your list as you clean them.
Another aspect of the house you have to consider getting inspected and cleaning is the HVAC system; you wouldn’t want to leave your guests cold in the living room would you? Along with that, ensure that you have enough heating oil stored to run your heating systems to their full potential. You can look for providers like PayLessForOil.com that could prove helpful for this.
Then comes the rest of the house. Cleaning can be a fun task, if you are up for it and excited about the holidays.
Another option is invest in a cleaning service which will do your whole house in one day. Totally worth it if you feel overwhelmed!
#3 Pets
Some of our relatives are allergic and some children are sensitive to pets, so if you have cats or large animals, why not give them a day or two at the pet hotel to play and be pampered and give your guests the best experience possible? However, while putting your four-legged friend at a pet hotel, it would be recommended that you inform the pet hotel owner about the specific needs of your furry friend. For instance, if your dog consumes products similar to CBD for dogs as a remedy to arthritis, then you might want to inform the hotel owner about the same. Remember, this will help the owner to tend to your pets in a better way.
# 4 Time To Party
I often host a brunch for friends and a dinner at Thanksgiving, so I make sure those two parties are two days apart to avoid being overwhelmed and over-stressed.
# 5 Appliances
Make sure your stove, oven, microwave, dish washer and fridge are working.
