Gratitude is a year long commitment for me, because I know everything good, life’s blessings starts with gratitude! If you start where you are, being grateful for what you already have, more will be added into your life!
The Power Of Gratitude
I believe if you are not content and happy with what you already have, you can’t appreciate and receive more!
I’m not just talking about money and material things.
I’m talking about blessings, great things and people who come into your life if you open yourself up to be happy with what you already have.
We had put our house up for sale last year and we only had 6 showings in almost a year. I felt cheated, sad, resented the situation since everybody I knew sold their homes in a month or less.
The lack of progress on that showed me two things:
- God has His own timing.
I looked around my 3,200 sqf home with 6 bedrooms and a gym room and felt grateful for what we have, starting a process of wait for the right time to put the house back up for sale.
So many people don’t have a home – so many people sleep in the cold and don’t have enough food daily.
Looking at it that way, it gave me a new perspective. It brought gratitude back into my life.
2. God has His own purpose.
The tornado damaged our home severely, the real estate agent had come to do a walk through at 3PM, the tornado, hit at 6PM.
It made me feel once more, bitter and sad, questioning the reasoning behind it all.
After pondering, I looked at it all as a blessing because we are safe and will have our home restored by the insurance at some point. We may have to put in some extra effort by looking for an expert who can assist with re-roofing and a few exterior repairs (according to this site, you can get services for clogged gutter, debris, chimney flashing, and weather damage).
However, we are lucky that we didn’t lose our lives or got hurt badly. It puts things into perspective for us all and makes us think about what we would have done if something terrible was to happen, like a death. That’s why people take out something like a colonial penn 995 plan or a similar insurance plan, so they are prepared. Can’t blame them for that.
How about marriage, relationships?
So often we hurry to blame and look for imperfections. Things we don’t like with one another.
Why not look for things you like and appreciate what your significant other does for you?
I’m guilty of complaining and nagging some times, but my journey has been teaching me that we are all imperfect and pointing out flaws and arguing will not make our lives better.
My husband and I share tasks in our house as empty nesters, so instead of nagging him for not doing the dishes or not doing something else, I have decided not to take it for granted and instead thank him when he does them!
Just last night, I was complaining about the dishes … complaining doesn’t make him do anything, right? I came down from working out and had work to do, but I thanked him after he did them.
Appreciation makes the other person want to do more, be better, love you more!
It’s all about how you look at things!
What is the area of your life that you’ve been unhappy about?
How can you turn that around and switch your perspective?
It is so important to praise in the storm and be grateful where you are….
Here are some tips on how to be more grateful today:
Gratitude Jar
A place that motivates me to write something I’m grateful for daily.
It sits by my desk, just waiting for me to pour into it.
I received that in 2017 when I attended Oprah’s Favorite Things Event and I’ve never stopped using it.
You can just pick up a vase and start your own gratitude notes today.
Journal
Do you have the habit of Journaling? I do!
I also write my daily gratitude notes there.
I usually write things which are not yet manifested, but I’m already grateful for!
Time
Take time before you start your day or at the end of your day and make time to be grateful!
I promise you, you will feel wonderful, even on those days you feel like the world collapsed and you feel like everything is wrong!
Do it! You will thank me later!
Can’t wait to hear what area of your life deserves more gratitude.
As usual, give us a Trendy Shout!

A gratitude jar sounds like a great idea, especially when paired with a gratitude journal! Certainly makes it easier to count our blessings when we put them in front of us and helps shift out perspective.

Yes, I agree God has a purpose for everything. Who knew I would be a homeowner after my divorce in 2020. I bought my house in 2021 and it will be paid off around the time my son graduates from high school. It’s a used mobile home but it’s mine. I’ve worked so hard for it and am so thankful I got a fantastic deal on it.

We’re in the middle of a similar delay with selling our house. This is a very timely reminder to be grateful for what we have!
