I love going to the beach in Brazil and seeing the vendors pass with a bucket like grill with the cheese skewers and molasses to drizzle on top. They grill the cheese skewer in front of us and offer a small container with molasses for dipping. It brings such great memories of our summer vacations at our beach house, all the weekends I’ve spent with friends and family enjoying the beautiful beaches in my home State of Bahia in Brazil.
It is always a family favorite when we visit Brazil! So I thought, why not share this amazing snack/appetizer with friends and family here? Why keep it to ourselves?
With Tropical Cheese Queso de Freir, I knew it was meant to be! The consistency is perfect and flavor is very similar to the cheese we have in Brazil.
Tropical Cheese Queso de Freir has the reputation of being the highest quality and most consistent frying cheese in the country. It fries to a crispy golden brown without breading or melting.
Interesting fact, Tropical Cheese Queso de Freir is consumed in the Dominican Republic as part of their breakfast accompanied by eggs, mangu (mashed plantains), and fried salami. It is also very popular in Nicaragua as an accompaniment to any meal. A version of this cheese, known as Halloumi, in Greece as well as other versions are enjoyed throughout the world, such as the one in Brazil!
The possibilities for using this cheese are endless! It can be deep fried, grilled, or pan seared. It can serve as a substitute for sandwich bread or mozzarella sticks, added to a salad in place of croutons, or added to pasta. Since I’ve discovered it, I’ve used it in so many different ways.
Loving it so much, I decided to create an appetizer which will be the life of the party! It has been my home gate, tailgate, open house and gatherings famous appetizer! And today I will be sharing that simple step by step Tropical Cheese Skewers Recipe with you!
TROPICAL CHEESE SKEWERS
Ingredients
1 package of Tropical Queso de Freir
1/2 cup of molasses
Medium size skewers
Preparation
Open the package and cut the cheese, I’ve tried larger pieces, but the smaller pieces are better for a snack or appetizers.
Place the cubes on the skewers, holding while moving them through it
Grill the skewers, you can also use a mini toaster oven, if you don’t have a griddle or a panini maker like mine. Grill until they are golden brown.
Remove it and drizzle some molasses, placing more on the side, for that extra sweetness.
I can’t wait to hear from you, when you try it at home! I know your family will want more!
