You probably remember when I first shared my excitement about the Changemaker Challenge, right? Today I’m discussing the contest winners and the specifics of my favorite Changemaker.
T-Mobile, The T-Mobile Foundation and Ashoka has announced the 15 winners of the 2022 Changemaker Challenge, the nationwide contest that gives young leaders between the ages of 13 and 18 the opportunity to level up their ideas for creating a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable future with networking, mentorship, and seed money. This is the fourth year they’ve partnered with Ashoka to bring this incredible content and they had a record-breaking number of applicants!
The three project categories were: Digital Empowerment, Equity in Action and Thriving Planet.
Every winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to T-Mobile’s headquarters in Bellevue, Wash. later this summer for the three-day Changemaker Lab to get coaching and mentorship from T-Mobile leaders, skills training from Ashoka, and networking opportunities with other winning teams. All winning teams receive seed money to fund their projects. Five winners in each of the three categories have been awarded $5,000 each in seed money and one project per category was selected to receive an additional $5,000 seed funding (for a total of $10,000 per team), and the opportunity to pitch their projects to T-Mobile senior leaders and the T-Mobile Foundation at the Changemaker!
Ultimately one team will be selected as the Grand Prize Winner and receive another $5,000 — for a total of $15,000 — plus a one-on-one meeting with a T-Mobile senior leader for additional guidance on how they can grow their venture!

Digital Empowerment – Top Category Winner – Safe Teens Online (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) A global, youth-led peer-to-peer initiative that educates teenagers on online privacy and safety, encouraging inclusivity, safe habits, and emotional well-being.
Equity In Action – Top Category Winner – MiSendero (Santa Barbara, Calif.) MiSendero works to meaningfully integrate Latin American English learners into their school communities by facilitating mutual learning experiences for all students.
Thriving Planet – Top Category Winner – Tobelli (Aurora, Ill.) Biodegradable food packaging that repurposes the cellulose found in tobacco to create a thin, safe material to help reduce waste.
Winner Highlight
My absolute favorite is the Digital Empowerment Winner: Safe Teens Online (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico)!
As a social media manager, I love seeing teens educating peers and sharing safe habits involving the digital landscape.
It is so important to help guide the new generation to use our digital world with responsibility and safely!
Also absolutely love that they are Latinos from Puerto Rico! As a Latina, it gives me so much joy to see my ethnicity represented among the winners, showing the true nature of diversity and inclusion which have been fundamental to T-Mobile as a brand and to the contest itself.
The fact that they are Latino Changemakers making a difference in the digital space in Puerto Rico, opens doors to extend the reach that the group has in their Comunidad Boricua!
A beautiful initiative for sure!

Hah! I recognized them for T-Mobile as soon as the color scheme was apparent! These challenge themes sounds like great areas to focus on opportunity for positive growth!
These are all amazing movements. My boys have been learning online privacy and “digital citizenship” since kindergarten, but it’s great to reinforce in the teenage years. I also love the idea of making a better alternative for food packaging as we try to reduce as much waste as possible in our home.
