Sobremesa means “After Meal”, something that is served after a meal – dessert and coffee – always in Brazil!
For me, the word makes a connection with some of the happiest memories I have from parties, birthdays or gatherings with family and friends! Because a meal is not complete without the perfect ending, that conversation time over coffee and most times dessert too!
The sobremesa time was the time when we got to chat, to just sit for hours, not necessarily around a table, just laughing, remembering old stories, learning about family traditions and enjoying time together!
So I’ve brought this tradition to my house and I have been sharing it with family and friends ever since I’ve moved here!
Here are some of our favorite Sobremesas:
Carrot Cake With Chocolate icing:
My husband and I actually enjoy a cafecito and sobremesa almost every night together; it’s our time to catch up from a long work day or just to chat and spend precious moments with each other.
We often trade the the long time it takes to freshly brew a pot of coffee, for a cup of NESCAFÉ® CLÁSICO™!
Why wait a long time for a cup of coffee, when you can relax and make a delicious cup with NESCAFÉ® CLÁSICO™, which is the leading coffee for Latinos in the U.S. It is 100% pure coffee, made from a blend of selected coffee beans, carefully roasted to capture its full flavor and aroma!
Enjoying NESCAFÉ® CLÁSICO™ is sharing that delicious taste, without compromising our time together!
After watching this video, I reconnected with those family moments and was inspired to continue this tradition! So much that I wanted to share it with you:
Here is my own version of it, hope you enjoy it:
Are you ready to share your sobremesa moment? Can’t wait to hear it! Or maybe you would like to share it tagging @NESCAFELATINO using the hashtag: #MomentoNESCAFE!
As usual, give us a Trendy Shout!

I am probably the only person on the planet not fueled by coffee! I can definitely stick around the table for dessert though! LOL 🙂

The flan looks so good. I haven’t had some for ages.

We didn’t call it a sobremesa, but I definitely agree that a meal is not complete without coffee and dessert. The dessert you have featured looks devine!

The floral cup and saucer are really cute!

I love love love sobremesa! I am always one for grabbing a cup of coffee and a sweet treat as a dessert to any meal served at family dinners. It’s something about having this moment to just enjoy your families company over something so delicious and fun. I need to start doing this more with my family when they come over.

What?!?! A tradition involving BOTH coffee AND yummy desserts?!?! How am I first hearing of Sobremesa?! This is a tradition I need to start, even if I’m not a Latina.
Christie
I need this to be a part of my family tradition, pronto! Dessert and coffee, always go well together
Kathy
I’m not a big coffee drinker at all. This product sounds great for those that are though. I’ll have to share this with a few family members that I know would love it.
Ann Bacciaglia
I love sipping on Nescafe in the morning. I will have to try the Carrot Cake With Chocolate icing. It looks so delicious.

You had me at those desserts! We also had our own Philippine Flan. I haven’t had it in a while though. Now I so badly want to have some. 🙂

I don’t drink coffee very often. I just drink it every now and then. I’ll have to pick up some creamer so that I can enjoy a cup of coffee.
Amanda
I need to instate sobremesa here! Studying in Spain my Mami always brought me cafe con leche after lunch. It was such a nice way to savor siesta a little longer.

I am loving that pic of that carrot cake. That sounds really really good right about now. I haven’t used Nescafe in forever, seems like I might have to try it again.

You are totally melting me with that carrot cake with chocolate icing. I want a piece right now.

I wish my kids would let us have some of this wonderful chat time. It is difficult to just get them to sit through dinner

Hi Claudia,
Depending on my mood, I eat or drink different things after my meal. Sometimes I may eat a fruit and some other times I might eat cinnamon cookies. That carrot cake with chocolate icing looks fantastic. Yum!

I think we need this all the time! What a great idea my hubby would love this! He is a coffee and treat freak! They have a good idea here!
Rebecca Bryant
We love to enjoy a cup of coffee and dessert after dinner. It is usually enjoyed after dishes are done but still so good.

So, if I send you my address will you send me a slice of cake?
That looks delicious!! We normally don’t have coffee or desert after dinner but I am wishing we did.
Milena
We always have a coffee after our meal. I always keep Nescafe in the house.

I love the concept of Sobremesas! I’m an avid coffee fan and would love to enjoy an after dinner cup with a slice of that carrot cake and chocolate icing! What a beautiful way to end a meal!

This sounds like the best tradition ever. I can’t think of anything better than dessert and coffee. It’s the perfect mix of flavors and atmosphere.

I’m not Latino, but sobremesa sounds like a tradition that I should start in my home. Dessert and coffee sounds super yummy.
Nancy Johnson Horn
What a lovely tradition! I am not Latina, but jewish and after meals were a big part of our culture. Sadly we don’t really do this as a family anymore, but I think I may encourage it.

Every Saturday afternoon, my friends come over for some ice coffee and the best part is that our cell phones are nowhere near us. In fact, this is the beauty of my weekly digital sabbath! So happy that you also find this time, coffee and friends, a time to detach from the screen and be present.
Cherri Megasko
You are so right about the sobremesa being a very special part of a meal. When my husband and I go out to dinner he is constantly reading and scrolling on his phone. But during dessert and coffee he finally puts his phone down and talks to me! LOL
Ashley @irishred02
This looks like a new tradition that I need to start. The Sobremesa looks tasty!

I haven’t had flan in ages. My ex husband is Portuguese and they ate flan ALL THE TIME.
