You know that hubby and I hike weekly and I manage a community of 12,000 hikers in New Jersey. We had the opportunity to test drive Great Rides For Hikers in 2023, so I decided to share my favorite 4×4, off-road friendly, rugged rides for you to check them out and start the new year with a ride that embraces your adventurous lifestyle.
Great Rides For Hikers
Let’s start with one of the most fun rides we’ve had all year! The Ford Bronco Raptor turned heads, conquered dirty trails and the design and colors were soooo trendy!
You can read more about our adventures seeking thrill with the Ford Bronco HERE.
Now, city friendly, more affordable, more fuel efficient and off-road ready vehicles!
Hyundai Santa Cruz
The Hyundai Santa Cruz has been one of my favorites since we drove it in California.
I recently had the opportunity to drive it for a week and enjoy the best of what it has to offer as far as being rugged, having awesome storage and being an affordable hiking ride!
You can check out the Santa Cruz HERE.
Ford Maverick Hybrid
The Maverick Hybrid not only offers you the fuel efficiency which allowed us to take the 200 mile round trip 0n less than ¼ of a tank to enjoy a day of hiking in PA.
You can read more about our time with the Ford Maverick HERE.
Now let’s talk about great hiking rides which are also awesome family cars! The SUV category is one of my favorites as a mom and having so many friends with teens and large families, you’ll want to check these out!
Jeep Grand Cherokee 4Xe
We drove the vehicle for a week and also took it to Maryland for some boating adventures (approximately 3.5 hours of driving there and back) and when the vehicle was returned to the manufacturer at the end of the week, this Plug-In Hybrid vehicle still had 7/8 of the gas tank full! Amazing, isn’t it?

Cadillac XT6
You know how much I love SUVs!
They have the space, the tech, the skills and the perfect view on road trips and daily drives. This is a step up on regular SUVs, The Cadillac XT6: Comfort & Style for you and your family, check it out!
Hyundai Santa Fe
Having the driving modes to support our weekend adventures gave us the rugged bonus feature to bring the Santa Fe as more than a “pretty face”, comfortable ride, but a capable one as well.
Lexus TX
We went hiking in Texas with the Lexus TX among other adventures!
You can read more HERE.
Jeep Grand Wagoneer
The piece de la resistance: The Luxurious Jeep Grand Wagoneer!
Luxury and capability makes this SUV one of my absolute favorites in 2023!
The 4×4 full capability gives you that extra reason to explore places while being encapsulated in the luxury of leather and design!
Check it out HERE.
How about great Trucks For Hikers?
Chevy Silverado
You know I had the Chevy Silverado for a long term loan for a month here and had the amazing opportunity to live the truck life!
We’ve enjoyed it so much, hubby and I are currently looking for a truck!
You can read more about hikes and what a perfect truck the Chevy Silverado ZR2 will be as your companion on your next adventures!
Toyota Tundra Hybrid
The Tundra Hybrid really surprised us on our hiking and road trips. The fuel efficiency and rugged capabilities come standard! Check it out HERE.

As usual, give us a Trendy Shout!
Terri Ramsey Beavers
Just like having the right equipment is important for hikers, so is the ride they take. I can see how each of these would be a perfect ride for the hobby.
Catalina
The Hyundai Santa Cruz seems like a practical choice, especially with its storage and affordability!
Melissa Cushing
Such great options here for hikers! We hike all of the time on the Delaware Water Gap area as we have a house in Dingmans Ferry. I am all about the Hyundai Sante Fe….sharp looking and the price is right too!
Lavanda Michelle
I’m definitely considering the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4Xe for its impressive hybrid capabilities and spacious comfort for family outings.
Marysa
This is a great list of rugged cars. I wasn’t familiar with the Maverick, and the others just a little bit. It is nice to have a decent size vehicle that can handle transporting gear and getting around easily.
LisaLisa
I’m not a hiker, but I’ll have to be honest, each one of these vehicles I like. My favorite is the Lexus TX , my sister has it and man is it beautiful!
Beautiful Touches
I like that the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Ford Maverick Hybrid are more city-friendly, helping them be more diverse in utilization. Overall, they seem so rugged and like they have a lot of great accommodations for frequent drivers!
Tara Pittman
The Hyundai Santa Fe was on our list of cars. We went with the Tucson as it had similar features at a lower price.
