Every holiday, since I moved to the US, I have opened my home to friends and my husband’s family because it’s that time of year when I feel homesick the most – when I miss our Latino Holidays, with a full house, food overload and listening to the same stories grandma used to tell! Since we got married, I’ve made it my mission to bring my Brazilian Holiday to our home and share my heritage with my son, my husband, friends and family, making them special #HolidaysConFamilia! Some of my favorite traditions are:
Music
I bought several holiday CDs in Portuguese and Spanish and my son grew up listening to our favorite holiday tunes in three languages! My husband grabs the guitar every year and we sing together, making memories and bringing holiday cheer through songs! We went to a studio and recorded some songs such as Oh Christmas Tree (O Pinheirinho de Natal), Jingle Bells (Bate o Sino/Cascabel) and Frosty (Hombre de Nieve) to give them to my students. They were a huge hit!
Food
style=”color: #000000;”>I often gather American and Brazilian food classics making our parties and holiday eve smell and taste like home! Some of our Classics are Bolo Sonho de Valsa, Farofa, Empada, Brigadeiro and so many other recipes, given to me by my mom, passed through generations. Here are the links to some of my favorites:

Decor
I also use items such as a Brazilian Santa and pictures from my home in Brazil to remind us that the holidays are a time to celebrate and be close to the ones we love! I also prepare guest rooms and bathrooms – we have 3 bathrooms in our home, with plenty of toilet paper and tissues to ensure that our guests will not find themselves in a position of being in there, needing those items and not having them! So I stock up, especially in our powder room, which is so needed during the parties!
We want to make sure our bathrooms are welcoming to anyone who uses them, so after the holidays we may want to give them a bit of a spruce up so they are ready for anything. We’ll have to check out a bathroom renovator or speak to a contractor to see what we can do as we want to make sure we have everything in hand. This is just a thought at the moment but it’s good to have a plan! 
Something I learned from my mom – prep time is as important as the party, because the planning allows you to enjoy time with the ones you love! I will share this secret with you – I go to BJ’s and make sure I save and stock up on the items I know I will need all through the season!

Christmas is when our Latino traditions really shine, don’t you think? I also love listening to holiday music (Mexican, in my case) and making lots of delicious food.

We do not ceebrate Christamas. I do however enjoy reding about how other peope celebrate the holiday and incorporate their tradtiions into modern life.
Those Kleenex boxes are great in all those patterns. They really do add a decor element to a bathroom.
You can never have too much toilet paper in the house, especially during the holiday season. I always stock up when it is on sale.
Planning ahead so you are not stuck in the kitchen the whole time is smart. I was just at BJs yesterday. 🙂

We have a Latin Christmas, my stepfather is Cuban. I look forward to the Cuban meal all year long my mom prepares for Christmas Eve!

These are awesome yips. Like you, I also like to decorate early. As soon as Halloween is through, I work on putting up the tree.
I miss Christmas in the Philippines. We always have parlor games on Christmas Eve, karaoke and of course, delicious Filipino food for noche buena – something that we don’t have here in the U.S. But it won’t be long ’til we celebrate Christmas there again. 🙂
I miss my family back home during Christmas. We used to have gamilygathering my FIL was still well but now, we kinda host our own holiday. Nice giveaway!

I have been listening to Christmas music non stop on Pandora since last week. Once Halloween is over, it’s all Christmas in our house.
I haven’t started that yet but I suppose that time is coming pretty soon. Probably as soon as the first decorations go up.
