Today we’re talking all things Irish and I will be sharing 3 tips on how to celebrate St Patrick’s Day at your home, with your friends and have fun, even if you’re not Irish!
But I wanted to start with the controversy generated when I asked hubby to pick out a green sweater for the Live Show last weekend!
He came up with the statement, “we didn’t celebrate St Patrick’s at our house”! I’m like, why not? He said, because St Patrick’s Day is an Irish Catholic celebration and we were not Catholic on our Irish side of the family. He said we were Irish Protestants.
I was like wow and went to dig into it! Did you know that there are two types of Irish, the Green Irish – the Catholic and the Orange Irish – The Protestants.
Protestant Irish have been known as “orange” ever since 1690, when William of Orange (William III), the king of England, Scotland, and Ireland, defeated King James II, a Roman Catholic, in the Battle of the Boyne near Dublin. YES! Facts I’ve gathered to share with you!
So now you know the difference!
Hubby comes from a long line of Irish, several orange generations, the Maloneys!
So I thought this battle between orange and green which is all over the internet if you want to check it out, was so interesting, I wanted to share with you!
To make peace with both sides, whether you’re orange or green, you too can throw an awesome St Patrick’s Day gathering using my tips!
