It’s been a while since my husband and I skipped the long restaurant lines and grabbed a nice lunch instead of a fancy restaurant at night!
Especially since my son’s grown older, we’ve wanted to include him in the celebration!
So in past years, we decided as a family to do different things to make our night fun and enjoyable! Some years at home and some out! This year, we decided to spend the night in and …
Here are some tips to spend Valentine’s Day With your Teen:
Our Theme: Fun Movie Night
Ahead of time – Cards
I have an amazing printer – HP Envy 7640, so we will be making our own cards with pictures and words and printing on the HP Card paper, which is AWESOME. Nothing better than sharing love and saving while doing it! I gave my family Feb 12th as the deadline to make the cards.
The Menu
Since our theme this year is movie night, we’re going to have munchies, pop corn candy and favorites for the whole family!
For dessert, we usually do an ice cream bar with different types of candy crushed and two types of ice cream and some other toppings! I added fruits last year and this year I will have some S’mores with fruit options, so you can go lighter, adding a fruit, dark chocolate and mini marshmallows instead of the traditional version and some candy as well, you can’t have movie night without candy, right?
I have a fireplace on my deck, so I’m using the skewers and bottom to roast the mini marshmallows! Yummm!
Movie Time! I figured this is something we would all do together as a family, so to honor Dad, this year we decided to watch Daddy’s Home 2! They will be launching it on DVD and Blu-ray on Feb 20th, so I thought a comedy would be the best option for a super fun night! I received it in advance with some great additions to our movie night party, to share it all with you guys!
This time the movie has more daddies and more problems in the great family comedy _DADDY’S HOME 2 _coming home on 4K Ultra HD,
Blu-ray and DVD February 20, 2018 from Paramount Home Media Distribution. The original _Daddy’s Home _also arrives February 20 on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and both films will be available in a two-movie Blu-ray Double Feature pack.
When it comes to raising their kids, Dusty (Mark Wahlberg) and Brad (Will Ferrell) finally have this co-parenting thing down. You think? Think twice!
That is, until Dusty’s macho dad (Mel Gibson) and Brad’s sweet-natured father (John Lithgow) come to town, throwing the whole family into complete chaos. As old rivalries create new problems, Dusty and Brad’s partnership is put to the ultimate test in this hilarious and heartwarming comedy that gives new meaning to the term ‘blended family.’
We can’t wait to watch it! You can find out more and grab your copy HERE!
That’s it! Super easy and simple, but my son has truly enjoyed the fact that we don’t leave him alone on Valentine’s Eve and we choose to spend the night with him instead … until he has a girlfriend, of course!!
How do you spend your Valentine’s? Do you include the kids?
Can’t wait to hear what you think! As usual, give us a Trendy Shout!
We usually stay home and cook dinner but I love this idea for teens. I can’t wait to see Daddy’s Home 2. The first one was hysterical. They have a great cast!
That’s such a great way to connect with your teen. Those S’mores look great! Daddy Home 2 is a great choice, so funny!

This is sweet. It’s a great idea to spend Valentine’s Day with your teen. He’ll be leaving home before you know it. Great movie selection too. It’s hilarious.
Valentines Day for my family is exactly what we desire it to be – spend time with family! We agree on a special meal we prepare ourselves, and the kids are in charge of choosing a movie or movies that we will watch together. Daddy’s Home 2 looks like a really hilarious movie. I’m getting a copy of it. We can watch this next weekend.
What a great idea for including the whole family in the fun. Our wedding anniversary is the same week as Valentine’s Day so we make the 14th all about the kids.
Movie nights at home are always so much fun. I’ve been waiting for Daddy’s Home 2 to come out and can’t wait to see this since I loved the original.
A movie night is a super fun idea for the entire family. It’s not often that you hear of entire families spending Valentine’s Day together and I love the thought of it.
This is such a fun and creative theme! I love how you incorporated your son into your Valentine’s Day celebration.
I have seen the 1st one. Cannot wait to see Daddy 2. What a fun way to spend Valentine’s Day!
I’ve been wanting to watch Daddy’s Home part 2 but never got a chance to catch it in the theatres! I’m sure any teen would love this film – the first one was hilarious.
We always spend Valentine’s Day with our kids. But as they are getting older it is harder to know what to do to make the day special. This is a great way to have some fun with your teens.
These are great ideas! I always get my kids something special for V-day and it is fun to make an evening of it.
I have been trying to do more and more with my oldest. I think a movie night would be the perfect way to do something one on one together. I love the idea of all the fun treats and such as well!

I love the idea of celebrating Valentine’s Day as a family with a movie night! We thought the first Daddy’s Home was hilarious and really look forward to seeing the sequel.
This sounds like a fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day and get your teen involved too! I always loved sharing the celebration with my kids.
That’s such a fun idea. Having been the single mom of an only child, we spent a lot of fun Valentine’s Days together.
These are great tips. I got my teen some cool t-shirts and he was happy with that, so I guess I did good this year.
This is really special. I too love making the holiday meaningful for my kids. I’m sure your son will remember the thought you put into everything.
We’ve celebrated Valentine’s Day as a family ever since the kids were born. We get the kids little presents and candies.
I’m not a huge fan of Valentine’s Day so my kids usually just get some candy. They’re happy with that.
This is such a cute idea and fun way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with teenagers! Also what a great movie you picked!
Awesome activity ideas! Teens can be so hard and picky about some stuff.
In my family all the girls get chocolates on valentines day. Then my husband takes me out to the movies.
That looks like a great way to spend the holiday. It is nice to find a movie kids, teens and parents will all enjoy and is appropriate. Your son looks just like you how cute.
There are so many different ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day. I guess the ways vary with age. As we grow older we generally prefer a quiet evening to ourselves as opposed to a more vibrant and rocking night.
I also have a teenager and a pre-teenager and have been doing things differently to help make them feel more included. My husband and I do our occasional date night or date lunch, but on days like Valentine’s Day we have planned an at home date night with the girls. We also choose a movie or board game and I make a simple dish and dessert that includes everyone’s favorite. Thank God they are not picky eaters. It’s always fun for them and a memory we create for our little family.
I love the film that you picked, it’s perfect for movie night! I think it’s really nice that you prepared a date with your teen for Valentine’s day. It’s definitely something he’ll remember.
We are off and on again with our Valentine’s Day celebrations. This year it’s a family dinner with a little karaoke. It will be a good time, teen included.
I don’t have a teenager yet but these are great tips for sure. My daughters always love a good movie night. It’s fun for the whole family.
Valentine’s day for me and my husband has always been a simple celebration at home with the kids. We all help prepare a nice dinner and watch movies afterward. We think this is the best way to set an example for the kids on how it is to share and show our love for family.
That sounds like such a fun night. This is the way that memories are made. You will always remember this fun fun night!
What great ideas, Claudia! I’m definitely an “at home” type of girl. Love staying in!
What a great idea to have a movie night. We were going to cook together and make a fun dessert. Love this idea.
We always celebrate Valentines Day late because we have work when it falls on weekdays. But we make sure we make up we do something fun on the weekends.
I think the best way to a teen’s heart is through food and movies. I would love to have a movie night with my teen this V-Day!
Valentines Day has become a family affair around our home. Has been for years. We thought everyone should enjoy the day not just the adults. Teens would appreciate this.
A relaxing movie time at home would be a good way to spend V day. You can really bond with your teen and have quality time.
Love spending Pre – Valentines with my teen boys too! <3
This would be a fun idea! We usually do include our kids on Valentine’s Day because we don’t go out. I think we’d all enjoy Daddy’s Home 2!
What great memories you are making as a family!
Watching a movie at home with the entire family is truly enjoyable. Coupled with dessert-making, makes a fantastic and quality time! While teens prefer to be with their friends, bonding with them is exceedingly ideal!
We don’t usually make a big deal out of Valentine’s Day. Staying in and watching a good movie together with the family is the perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day. I hate fighting the crowds at restaurants and haven’t done that in years.
We haven’t really celebrated Valentine’s Day in a while now with each other. We still help my youngest celebrate it by doing cards for his classmates. My oldest would enjoy a movie night.
We don’t do Valentine’s Day in our house. My little one will pass out valentines at school, but other than that it’s just another day for us.
