Cultural differences are sometimes very important to understand the way we feel and do things! When I moved to the US, I had never cleaned anything in my life, my mom always had a maid and so did I when I moved out on my own. Needless to say, it was a big cultural change when I saw a toilette waiting for me and had to look for All Purpose Cleaners to clean surfaces, floors, kitchen, tiles, marble! What to do? Things had changed in Brazil as well and new employment rules, prevented more middle class families from affording a live-in maid, like we used to have. My mom had to then join the line of women who help with house work. But even before, she always supervised the maid’s work, making sure the cleaning was done to her liking.
I started experimenting with cleaning products and after we had a large renovation, adding 1,500 sq.ft. of hardwood floors to my cleaning duties, I immediately called my mom! What have I done?? She told me to use her family recipe; I’ve been following her recipe ever since! My floors are now 8 years old and never lost the beautiful shine, nor have they been stained by my young one! I always get compliments and people think I have brand new floors!
I am going to share her secret recipe today with you!
1 measure of Fabuloso
2 measures of water
Make sure the floor is thoroughly dried after using the product on the hardwood floors and lista, your floors will last so long, you will be making memories with Fabuloso!
In case you are wondering, Fabuloso can be found at Walmart Stores, I prefer the Lavender Scent but you can also choose other fragrances.
Here is what my 56 oz bottle looks like!
My mom helped me make memories with her tips, because every time I clean my home, the scent brings back memories of the way our house smelled and of how proud she was in always having everything spotless. Sometimes I can almost hear her singing! Cleaning time for me is a lot more than cleaning as it evokes memories of my Latina Childhood.
I am always looking for new cleaning tips, share yours with us! Can’t wait to hear things your Mama shared with you and how you keep your floors clean or that you’ve tried my mom’s recipe and have seen the change in your floors!
* Note: I have high quality hardwood floors, but some laminates will not tolerate water, so I highly recommend checking your floor’s specifications and product information to ensure it is safe for your floor.
