The milk life Lo Que Nos Hace Fuertes campaign launched the Somos Fuertes program to gather Hispanics across the country to start and finish their day with milk, and its 8 grams of high quality protein and 9 essential nutrients.
In a New Year celebration, the Milk Life Somos Fuertes campaign would like to encourage families to add milk to their diet, to enhance a recipe, combine it with other breakfast items or just as a snack.
The Milk Life Somos Fuertes campaign recently launched U.S. Olympic Medalist, Cuban-American Gymnast, Danell Leyva as their new strength ambassador with the goal of educating others on the importance of fueling your day with a nutrient-rich breakfast. A simple way of adding protein to your breakfast is by pairing your breakfast favorites, with a glass of milk.
Check this great video of Somos Fuertes ambassador, Danell Leyva and his father/trainer, Yin Alvarez out:
Did you know that Milk has 9 essential nutrients, including 8 grams of high-quality protein in every 8oz. glass? And it is one of the most affordable sources of high-quality protein you can find! I just love that!
It took me a while to understand that getting enough protein at breakfast can help me stay fuller longer, so I’m more likely to stick to a healthy eating routine.
That’s why I am so excited to join this great movement and share some of my favorite Latin breakfast recipes that power my morning:
Smoothies:
You know I love smoothies, so I basically pair any fruits we have in the house with ice and one glass of low fat milk
Fritatas:
I pair veggies, eggs with low fat cheese, salt and pepper and make the most delicious fritatas paired with cold glass of milk.
Today I wanted to share a recipe from the Fuertes Con Leche website, which I translated and slightly modified making it in a skillet instead of microwave and I did not add the bread which was on the original recipe, so I added it to the nutrition facts, in case you would like to add to yours as well.
Ingredients
1 egg
1 TBSP of low fat milk
2 TBSP of Breakfast Sausage, cooked and cut in pieces or 1 sausage breakfast patty
2 TBSPs of shredded Cheddar Cheese
Serve with:
1 8oz Glass of Low Fat Milk
(Optional: 1 piece of toasted flatbread)
Preparation
Beat one egg and 1 TBSP of milk in a bowl until mixed, pour and cook it in a pre-heated skillet, add sausage, cheese and fold it with a spatula in an omelet style! Spread cheddar cheese on top and leave some on the side for that extra rico factor. Serve it with an 8oz glass of milk for that perfect, nutritious breakfast! Full of labor!
Nutrition
(based on recipe with one piece of toast)
410 calories; 16 grs of fat; 7 grs de sat fat ; 215 mgs colesterol; 25 grs protein; 41 grs carbohidrates; 0 grs fiber; 650 mgs sodium; 451 mgs calcium (45% daily dose recommended). Nutrition facts based on the use of low fat milk with the egg and 1 8oz glass of low fat milk.
