This Summer we decided to help our son use his tech abilities not only on his YouTube Channel, but also through different projects, building a bridge between play time and his interest for technology.
That’s why we love the Sphero – SPRK+: designed to inspire curiosity, creativity, and invention through connected play and coding! My son has learned coding on his own. He uses many advanced programs such as After Effects, to code movements and sync into music and graphics to create super cool intros and also does tech reviews:
We thought the Sphero- SPRK+ would be a great Summer Gift since it is far more than just a robot. With its help, he should soon be able to get comfortable around computers and solve almost any programming issue. Of course, it is going to take him time, I don’t expect him to suddenly have advanced knowledge about how to delete files and directories on a Linux operating system right off the bat (find more information on https://www.linode.com/docs/guides/delete-file-linux-command-line/ or similar webpages), but I love that he is showing much interest. For that, I have this app to thank. Powered by the Lightning Lab app, you can easily learn programming, complete hands-on activities, and he can share his new discoveries with friends!
Here are some of the features we really love:
- SPRK+ is a great toy to play with in the house or on the go
- SPRK+ is a great way to infuse classroom-type learning outside of the classroom
- Some fun activities SPRK+ is programmed to do: navigate mazes, swim across water, be a magic 8 ball, and painting pictures
Pool Time at night, just became even more fun! My son invited his friends over and the Sphero was the life of the party!!
Check it out in action:

I wanted to share that Product Age Rating is 8+. Some of the coding and projects are not for younger ones, so you might want to check your child’s ability and the Sphero site. If you are planning on playing and using its features with your child, then it’s an amazing gift to inspire them to learn using technology and science principles! Learn More HERE!
What do you think? Do you choose toys which also teach your children to develop skills and learn? As usual let us know and give us a Trendy Shout!
My son is too young for this but this seems like a good gift for 8+ for sure. You must be so proud of you son. Way to go.
Wow! Kids nowadays are so lucky to have endless choices when it comes to toys. Love that this helps kids with coding. My daughter is a bit too young for this though.

We love these kind of ‘toys’! It’s a great way to teach kids about the basics of coding and give them a head start. Sphero is one we are getting for my stepson this summer! I know he is going to love it!
I have to check this out. Playtime should also be learning time for the kids. Since we can’t take away technology from them, let’s just incorporate it to their playtime.
this is def not just for kids!! i have a friend that loves this stuff
I don’t think this is just for kids. My husband has friends come over and they use Raspberry Pi’s to program toy robotic cars. This would be fun to add to his toy chest and chase the cats with!
My daughter is still too young for anything like this but I know older kids would go crazy for it!
I haven’t heard of this before but it sounds like fun. My 8 year old loves science toys and this would make him happy.

I’m so glad they got the Sphero into a more mass production marketable price range and format. I remember seeing the original demo and it was quite advanced. It looks like they’ve really made it functional for all ages.
