Holidays at our home are all about making new memories, sharing our love, culture and traditions with others! The home is filled with friends and family, the aroma of home cooked dishes, gifts under the tree and joy embellishes the gatherings, making this time of year, my absolute favorite of all!
Every year, I sit in my kitchen and I work on new recipes where my love for great food is blended with accents of my home country and Latin Favorites!
I have decided to share some of my creations this month with you, starting with this recipe, a great conversation starter, which can be served as an appetizer or side dish at your next party!
Shopping for ingredients is very important, so I want to share two of the most important ingredients in this dish, which I’ve found at my local stores, so you too can find them:
La Morena customers appreciate quality and tradition, just like me!
Being a leader in the chili and pepper categories, La Morena has been providing us with the best products, preserving the the authentic Mexican recipes for over 25 years!
Now let’s work on the two recipes needed to assemble this beautiful dish!
Chili Jalapeño Corn Bread
Ingredients:
5 tbsp of butter
1/3 cup of unsweetened apple sauce
1/2 cup of honey
1/4 cup of sugar (granulated)
4 large eggs
1 cup almond milk
2 cups Maseca® Corn Flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 La Morena Jalapeño cut in small thin slices, with seeds removed
Instructions:
Preheat the oven 375F, grease a muffin pan with with non stick spray
Melt butter, add applesauce, sugar, honey, eggs and mix all the ingredients together.
Add salt, baking soda, half of jalapeño, almond milk and stir.
Here is an easy step by step tutorial:
Step 1: Mix all ingredients but La Morena Jalapeño slices.
Step 2: Add La Morena Jalapeño, pour mixture in a greased bottomless pan and bake in a pre-heated 375ºF oven for 40 minutes or until golden brown:
Step 3: Cut a circumference in the center of the bread after it has cooled down and remove the sides of the pan, leaving just the bottom for support.
Now it’s time to make the chili! So easy, you won’t believe it!
Chili Recipe
1 pound of lean ground beef
2 cloves of garlic
1/2 tsp of ground coriander seeds
1 tsp of ground chili peppers
1 Tbsp of cumin
1 Tbsp of mixed seasoning, use your favorite one, make sure it was salt and pepper among other ingredients!
1 diced onion
1 can of red kidney beans, drained
1 can of crushed tomatoes
1 tbsp of cheddar cheese to garnish
Check my scope on this recipe: Chili Recipe
Preparation:
Mix all ingredients in a crock pot and cook for 6 hours on low temperature or until the beef is cooked.
After the chili is cooked, pour it (warm) inside the Jalapeño Corn Bread and use additional slices and cheddar cheese to garnish!

The cornbread sounds pretty straightforward to make. I wouldn’t want the jalapeno, would anything need to be altered if that’s omitted?
