I recently went to Blogger Bash NYC and will attend Blogher14 next week, so after making mistake #3 on my list this past week, I decided to share these tips, to hopefully help you to avoid them! I’ve made the below mistakes many times, all but the bubblehead situation… I hope! Here are my Five Tips on What Not To Bring:
Just remember, you will be running to make sure you visit all the sponsors and attend sessions; when will you have time to plan enough to take good pictures with your camera? Unless you have an app like eyefi, and a camera which is compatible with the new apps, the images will be trapped in there anyway, without any way of being sent to the web to share your great looking pictures until you get home! You are also risking the camera being stolen when placing your bag down or damaged while walking in the conference madness!! I do have a brand new canon and eyefi, but never take my camera to the conferences.
I pulled this quote: “Shoes transform your body language and attitude – Christian Louboutin to illustrate this common mistake, especially among Latinas. I LOVE high heels! If you know me, you know that it is true, but when I know I will be walking all day, I don’t bring high heels! You will hate and regret bringing them and look and feel uncomfortable which defeats the reason why you brought them in the first place: To look good!
I have made this mistake too many times! I bring extra outfits for options, then I don’t have space to bring anything home and if you don’t check in your luggage, you will be carrying your extra choices around for HOURS, asking yourself WHY???! So listen to me, just bring one outfit per day, one or two night options, if you were invited to cocktails and night parties!
I saw a brand fold a media kit and place it in their toss pile once…..that is probably not an uncommon scene…..there’s a high chance that they will probably place your media kit along with disposables at the end of the event, remember they don’t want to carry things back…they are flying like you …. so bring your business card, take theirs, make it an excuse to contact them, look professional and ask if it’s OK for you to send your media kit. I always do it and NEVER heard a no! If you have old business cards then you may want to print out/make some new ones by using a die cutting machine, you can use a myriad of materials that will make it stand out amongst the other business cards handed out.
It’s great to have your amazing awesome sauce on your blog, your bubbling personality but a walking bubblehead blogger, that’s my term by the way ☺, scares the brands more than make a good impression. It’s distracting, takes your time away from talking business; instead, you will probably spend more time explaining your outfit choice or that hat option…
Hope these tips help you make smart choices when packing whether it’s your first or you are a seasoned blogger, because there’s always a first time to making bad packing choices.

These are great tips. Just bring a small blingy thing for parties afterwards. Quick change!

Well…. you saw how I pack for a conference. (I am about the total opposite of a fashion blogger.) lol I totally agree with every single tip you’ve shared. I’ll be bringing my flats… and even my flip flops. It is CA after all!
I will bring my big camera to CA for BlogHer…. but not to the actual conference… just for the time I plan to get in a little bit of site seeing. 🙂

I love all of these except crazy outfits haha At some typeA and event it calls for sparkles or costume parties or Mickey Mouse ears. Depends on the conference.

Thank you so much Nancy! Hope to meet you soon!

Great tips! Have fun at BlogHer. I brought Dr. Scholl’s flats last time-so helpful to have when feet hurt.

These are so true – great advice for any newbies attending a conference!

Absolutely agree! Lessons I learned the hard way too. See you at the conference!

Based on my non-blog related conference attending experience, your advice on packing for BlogHer in this post, would be applicable to pretty much any large conference a woman might attend. I’ve been to one blogging conference (TBEX for travel bloggers), but I’ve attended many Social Security law conferences in my former life. I’m hoping a BlogHer conference is in my future.

I have planned to bring only flat sandals. I will have “high heel envy” the first time I see someone wearing them instead of me! See you there!

I was debating on taking the camera too, but worry that I’ll get tired carrying it all day. Hmmm…still not sure. Thanks for the tips!

I didn’t share on the post, Stephanie, but my friend had her $ 1,000.00 camera stolen last year at a conference while she was speaking with a brand, so please think twice.Thank you for your comment!
