I recently found a large box with brand new make up given to me from brands, but I had no idea when. So I searched several sites, while carefully inspecting each product. Today I’m sharing with you my findings and some tips hoping to answer the question: When To Throw Away My Makeup?
When To Throw Away My Makeup?
Let’s look at what some doctors and experts say on keeping your make up:
Mayo Clinic:
Powder products, if stored properly and free from moisture, are good for up to two years.
Health.com:
One year or less for the majority of the products you have in your makeup cabinet.
I personally like a few warning signs that the makeup is expired and what to do look for:
Expired Makeup signs:
*Liquid starts to separate/change color
*Cream Thickens
*product develops a rubbery aroma
If you notice one of the above signs, it’s time to toss the makeup!
I used those signs to discard many products, because my skin safety is more important than keeping a product just because it hasn’t been opened.
Yes, I was extremely sad to throw away nearly 500.00 worth in products, but it inspired me to clean my make up closet in my bathroom.
Speaking about the closet and how to store makeup, here are some tips:
How to Properly Store Makeup:
I’m the only person who uses my bathroom, that means only one shower/bath daily, so my bathroom is a great place to store my makeup.
If you have people constantly taking showers and keeping the bathroom temperature high as well as the humidity, you might want to rethink the place to store your makeup.
Heat, humidity, direct sunlight are your makeup worst enemies, so avoid them at all cost!
Also look for signs on sponges and brushes to make sure they are still good to be used!
Here are some summer beauty products I’ve recently added to my list:
Face Sunscreen and Serum
I often use Neutrogena Sunscreen Products because other brands have given me blemishes.
I also love their price.
Here are my favorite Neutrogena Facial Sunscreen Products:
Neutrogena Daily Defense Face Sunscreen + Hydrating Serum, SPF 60+Antioxidants to help your skin glow, oil free.
Ultra-Sheer Moisturizing Face Serum Sunscreen, SPF 60+ with vitamin E
After all, who doesn’t love that sun kissed safe facial glow?
Contour Highlighter
I prefer the powder contour/highlight instead of the stick products, but you should check both out to make a choice.
This is one of my favorite summer make up products, because it is an easy way to eliminate the heavy make up look and just add some glow to it.
Bobbi Brown Shimmer Brick Compact – Bronze
Summer Lipstick
You might be thinking, I don’t want lipstick just for the summer. Well, I buy colors I can use through multiple seasons.
Here are the “trendy summer colors: Vivid tones of turquoise, purple, cerise, and peach complement gentle pastels.
I’m ordering a Nude Envie lipstick! They are a green beauty brand and also have a brown skin line, which I saved to order later!
This is the summer lipstick color I’m ordering:
