.
I grew up in Brazil, heading to our beach house on an island, fun driving … ferry to get there, but it was all worth it! All except for this gorgeous view, which only an RV will give you!!
Picture taken while crossing a bridge near Cape Cod with the RV in motion!
Family around, friends all over the place! Parties all month long! So many friends and great experiences I will never forget!
That’s how I feel when I go camping! I was invited by GoRVing Program to drive a Winnebago Minnie Winnie and enjoy a camping experience at the Atlantic Oaks Campground in Cape Cod.
Entering the Cape and admiring that beautiful area, as if we were doing it for the first time, it was something we will never forget! Nothing compares to an RV Trip! That scene left an imprint in our minds and hearts!
We had a chance to camp for the third time and each experience has been better than the one before! But what I really want to share with you is why it is such a great experience for us Latinos and how many hermanos y hermanas I’ve found at different campgrounds!
Here Are Some Reasons Why Camping Is A Must Try For Latinos:
The Food
What better place to make an over the fire chicken quesadilla than at a campground? This easy, yet delicious meal will keep your family asking for more! At least, mine did!
Here is the recipe for my Chicken Quesadilla and how prep time helped me enjoy the meal as much as my family did!
Camp Fire Chicken Quesadilla – Firedillas
I marinated the chicken ahead of time, to accentuate the flavors and avoid having to bring all those spices to the campground!
I made pico de gallo the day before and added a bit of vinegar, to make sure it was preserved and would taste fresh!
I did not place chicken and cheese in taco like I would normally do to melt the cheese, because I wasn’t sure how it would taste on the campfire, so it was on the side to add as much as you wish!
Ingredients
1 chicken breast , cut in small pieces
Adobo seasoning
3 Tbsp of EVOO
Half lettuce head, chopped in thin pieces
1/2 cup of shredded cheese
Pico de Gallo
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, seeded and chopped
1/4 cup of fresh cilantro, chopped
Salt & Pepper to tast
1 jalapeno (seeded for less heat, if desired), finely chopped
Mix and serve, the fresher the better!
Easy Guacamole
1 avocado,
1 small onion diced
Salt and Pepper to taste
Minced Garlic
Chilli pepper
Lime Juice (half of a lime)
Cilantro to garnish
Mix all ingredients right before you are serving, the fresher, the better!
Preparation:
Marinade the chicken with abobo and 1 Tbsp of EVOO and place it in a bag and refrigerate it.
Start your campfire ( below, I will share a few tips if this is your first time doing it)
When the flames are lower, place a casserole on the grill with 2 Tbsp of EVOO and the chicken
While it is cooking, place buffet style, which will allow you to enjoy the meal!
Place the tortillas ( I have a warmer, so I place them in the warmer in the microwave for 20s), pico de gallo (recipe), sour cream, guacamole (recipe), chopped lettuce.
Once the chicken is cooked, gold brown both sides, about 20 mins, you’re ready to have the most delicious and easy campground meal ever!!! Que rica!!!
My tip: I asked hubby and son to help chopping some of the ingredients!!
Serve it all on plastic or disposable plates, true campground style!!! The meal serves 4 well, but my guys love it, so, there was nothing left, but it was just the 3 of us!
This is just one of so many easy and delicious meals you can serve at the campground, bringing your Latino culture to the experience!
The Familia Environment
Once you arrive at a campground, you feel that familia environment! Something you feel when you are among latinos all the time. But it’s not a Latino aspect of the campgrounds, it’s an overall attitude!
We arrived super late because of the traffic, we didn’t know how to open the gate, three campers came to rescue us!
As soon as we parked, two of the neighbors came to greet us with a big smile and check out the RV!
During our 4 day stay, many other campers stopped by, brought the dogs for my son to pet … and it’s not because we were special, it’s truly a campground way of living! What I call a Familia Environment, where everybody seems to treat you like family!
We met a few Hispanic families and one Brazilian family, since there are so many Brazilians in the Massachusetts area!
They were a bit shy for the pictures, but I was able to take a shot of some of their pets, which came to visit every time they stopped by!
We also had a chance to speak with a family which has been camping for over 30 years and have grown from small tents into a full size RV! So many memories!!!
Simple Life
Another great aspect of the campground life which reminds me of South America is that simple life attitude! Yes, we have electricity and running water and a 60″ TV if we want, but the act of sitting under a tree, talking to your neighbors, sharing stories and the campfire at night, long walks and hearing the birds and nature breezing along are all the perks of enjoying a camping experience which reminds me of my trips around South America and my childhood!
For me, camping is like coming back home! Es como estar en mi casa!
The beach, the nature, animals and the true simple life is just unbelievable!

Family Time
You know we’re all technology lovers, right? The only time I was plugged in was when I used my phone to share my experience with you all!
Yes, but it’s good to unplug for a while! I love how my son disconnects from his cell and calls me to play!
He also enjoyed the basketball court with my husband and we were able to take a few long walks around the area!
During our trip we connected in a stronger way, away from our busy plugged-in life, which is something Latinos truly long for! The familia y amigos love and time spent together like when we were little, when we were in our home countries!
I could share a million other ways I know Latinos would identify themselves, but I’m saving them for a future experience, for our next camping adventure, which I know will be soon!
Until then, we will be cherishing those moments and enjoying the memories made during our last trip to the Cape.
I will be sharing our Atlantic Oaks Campground review and so much more soon!

We grew up camping both in the summer and the winter. Normally we’d rent a cabin during the winter though! I love recreating those memories with my own family. The food sure has gotten better since I camped as a kid. Can’t wait to try your recipes.

Growing up we went camping every summer. We would have singalongs around the campfire while roasting marshmallows. Now that I have kids of my own we try to go camping as often as we can.

Camping is so much fun, no matter what your ethnicity. It’s something everyone should try at least once. Even a less than stellar trip makes for some amazing family memories.
