I have been struggling with weight loss my whole life, as you know. Fighting genetics, body type, now aging and hormones. I’ve finally found a lifestyle that works for me, so today I’m sharing how to start with Keto and make healthier choices!

How To Start Keto
First let me start by saying I’m doing Intermittent Fasting along with Keto. You can read all about it HERE.
Keto lifestyle didn’t come natural to me, as I’ve spent my whole life running away from fat and cheese! 😂
But after trying it since the beginning of December and losing 14 pounds, I can say for sure it works!
What is Keto?
In a nutshell, keep your carbs under 50 grams a day, make sure you’re eating healthy fats and also watch your proteins, because a lot of proteins turn into sugar.
The ketogenic diet (or keto diet, for short) is a low carb, high fat diet that offers many health benefits.
In fact, many studies show that this type of diet can help you lose weight and improve your health
I’ve added the Carb Manager app to my tools and it helps me keep an eye on my numbers which should be 22g carbs or less, 111g of protein or less and 138g of fat or less, according to my height, weight and goals.
Here’s How I’ve Made It Work By Making Healthier Choices:
Vegetables
I’ve removed starchy vegetables and made sure every meal has a low carb vegetable, like broccoli, asparagus, mixed greens, spinach, cauliflower and many others!
Yes! Cauliflower has become my newest best friend!
I’ve also looked for new recipes to make sure I’m not using hidden carbs or making wrong choices!
One of my favorites is this Keto Stir Fry, check it out HERE.
Upgrade Your Pantry
Starting a new lifestyle and keeping the same items in your pantry is a recipe for failure!
I removed flour, starch, sugar, crackers, cookies, chips, tortillas and created a place in my basement for those items, so my family has access if they REALLY want to consume them, but they are out of reach for me!
Added new items to my Keto Pantry:
MCT Oil & Coconut Aminos
The fast burning point of MCT Oil, among other benefits make it a perfect choice for Keto Lifestyle.
I also included Coconut Aminos which replaces the soy filled teriyaki sauces and oriental like options!
I don’t find them at my grocery place often, so when they are below half , I grab a new bottle.
So far it’s only happened with the MCT oil.
Love this brand, I can find it everywhere and I only need a bit to make some eggs or other recipes!
Learned the hard way that the best almond flour needs to be blanched and finely ground to work on waffles, bread, pancakes and other recipes!
Love this brand, but I can only find it at Amazon, neither of my local stores carry it.
It has a sweet strong taste, so I only use this flour for sweet waffles or coconut shrimp recipes.
Pizza night is a torture for me! So instead of ordering a salad and watching my family eat pizza, I have decided to try this mix with all my favorite toppings which are keto approved!
It just arrived, so I will be trying it this week for the first time! https://amzn.to/2K6DPcu
Yo Mama’s has amazing reviews and honestly tastes better than the brands I used to buy!
The price is higher, but you know, you get what you pay for!
I order two jars every two weeks!
Plan ahead
The lack of planning made me feel kind of sick of the same vegetables and combos after 3 weeks.
So I googled new recipes and made changes to my favorite ones and it’s been fun discovering new ways to continue to live the keto life!
I try to plan for the week ahead and my grocery list includes the vegetables and protein, to ensure I’m not looking at the fridge at 5PM wondering what to make!
Today I’m trying a new parmesan chicken nuggets recipe with cauliflower fritters and sautéed spinach – a 6 carb dinner! Not bad, right?
This is one of the recipes I will be trying. Love their site, they have so many amazing recipes!

Workouts
Add some workout to your routine!
I know the lack of carbs will remove the energy from you, especially if you’re also aiming for a calorie deficit like me!
My game plan is to workout early afternoon when I break my fast!
I get that energy boost!
