I have a great love for fishing! It started back when I was around 12. I had gone to a friend’s house to play for the afternoon. Yep, that’s right, it wasn’t a “hang out” or a “play date”, we just went to play with our friends back then. Anyway, my friend’s mom told me that my friend was down at the lake behind their house and was fishing. I arrived just in time to watch him pull a 2 pound large-mouth bass from the water! That’s all it took … I was hooked!
My family traveled all over this continent when I was younger and I fished almost every place we went. But my favorite place to fish was in Banff National Park in Alberta Canada, where I caught a beautiful 3+ pound Kamloop trout.
I’ve shared my love of fishing with both of my sons and they too enjoy fishing. They love it that much that they’ve even decided to broaden their horizons into the many other types of fishing that are out there. One of my sons came across something like this Casual Carper fishing blog and has got a new-found interest in carp fishing, so hopefully, we can organize a trip to do this at some point in the near future. I’m sure it will be a lot of fun. Unfortunately, it’s become harder to get the time to go fishing as the years have gone by. So I’ve found that I need to make the time to go fishing each year, or it just never happens! Perhaps we’ll even go on a fishing vacation one year too – I know that fishing is one of the many things to do in Lake Travis TX, so maybe I’ll look into that some more. I’ve also come to terms with the fact that, yes I love fishing, however, my aging body no longer enjoys rowing. For this reason, I would definitely be better off using a boat with an Elmotor. Then once I’m in my fishing spot on the lake or river, I’m not so exhausted and ready to go back in an instant!

I was lucky and managed to catch 2 chain pickerel and 1 large-mouth bass – all of which I released back into the lake. My son and his friend were fishing in his friend’s boat and also had a great time fishing. Check out my wife’s post to see how they made out.

I have to admit that fishing has been something I always loved doing with my family. My grandfather would take my siblings and me out at 6 am in the summer months to fish. I love fishing too and I also don’t have the time to go. For the last five years, if I get to go once a year, I will be lucky. I am going to make sure that I go next year.
I miss fishing as well, it was our bonding time with our father. We fish for relaxation, some of our catch we snd them back to the waters, and just take enough fish for our food. It is so much fun, then we enjoy the beach.

Goodness I miss fishing and I miss my Dad who still had so much to teach me and my kids about it. My favorite fishing trip I must have been about 12 and we went to Sherbrook in Canada and I caught a rainbow trout that was huge! It was the biggest the family ever caught. My Dad was so proud when the lodge put a photo of me and the fish on the wall and he got to see it year after year when he went back. I think the world needs more fishing boxes as a great excuse to get more people outside!
You might think I am weird but honestly, I have never gone fishing before. I mean I tagged along with my dad and grandfather but I was never in the boat with them or sitting on the shore with a fishing rod in hand waiting for fish to bite. They said it is very relaxing. I might try it sometime though. My brother in law loves this activity. Maybe my family and my sister’s family can plan a weekend fishing/camping trip.
I dont fish, but have friends who really enjoy it. They go every other month or so as a weekend getaway. I’d love to check out that subscription box for them cause I know they’d love something like that.

Oooooh……. fishing! My boys love fishing. They too started when they were youngsters. Every vacations we ever went on they fished. I loathe fishing. It’s all because I practically grew up in a boat. Every single weekend my parents would go fishing. We would leave as the sun was rising, and stay out all day. Thankfully my daddy married my mom, who also loved fishing. To this day my dad still enjoys fishing. He’s 76 but still manages to take his boat out on the water. He would love a box like this!
