My husband has always helped and encouraged our son Lucas from an early age – when he started piano and guitar lessons, when he joined an audition only, prestigious local choir.
But nothing created a stronger bond, than when Lucas said he really loved basketball and expressed interest in pursuing it! You know, he’s been off the growing charts since the age of 2 , so 14 years old and 6’5″ – basketball is a natural choice!
My husband, who played and coached the sport for many years, was excited to help Lucas grow in the sport and develop new skills! He drives Lucas to endless practices and stays there to observe, and also drives him to out of State games!
More than ever their bond has strengthened, each ride at a time!
A few weeks ago, we had a chance to drive to Massachusetts to attend an AAU league tournament and we were blessed to bring my son’s friend and his dad with us!
CX-9 Drive
The drive was full of coaching lessons from the dads and jokes between teens and experienced dads, who had both played the sport! They came up with a plan – donuts for dunks! Yes they bet donuts to see who would be able to dunk at the basketball hall of fame!
The same way the sport helped my husband and son get closer through a mutual interest, the Mazda CX 9 helped make our travel experience more comfortable and enjoyable! Here are some things we and the teens, loved about it!
7 passenger seat:
allowing us to provide them with a ride and still fit 5 super comfortably! Both boys are over 6’4″ and the dads are 6’2″ and 6’6″! So we know the Mazda interior played an important role in making sure we all had plenty of room for a 5 hour drive!
Multiple USB and ports, individual controls for heat/cooling:
giving the teens, the independence they love and need!
The Mazda CX9 also took us around Springfield to our cute hotel;
To the basketball hall of fame and the beauty of seeing the kids hopes and dreams;
And to the college where the games took place.
Here are a few resources if your child/teen is also interested in joining an AAU league in your area: AAU
You lose track sometimes of how important your ride is to fit your lifestyle! The Mazda CX9 totally brought us back to what really matters and realizing that focusing on what keeps us together is the best way to create a family bond, while bringing the kids together inside as well as outside of the court!
Here are some other things I personally loved about the Mazda CX9:
Fuel Economy:
We were able to keep it for a week’s drive, going to Springfield MA and back, only having to fill up the tank once.
Cargo Space
We definitely needed that with all the guys in the vehicle!
Hubby and son are now also sharing the love for cars and comparing our rides! I love watching it! For now, it fills my heart to ride along and watch their bond grow!
I hope you enjoyed following our ride to Massachusetts and learning about what a great ride the Mazda CX-9 is! I can’t wait to hear what you think!

It is glad to be able to read about all the Mazda CX9. Really helpful for those who are in the market for a new car.

Wow – Mazda is really doing a great job with their vehicles. That definitely looks like a ride of luxury! I’ve loved the Mazdas I’ve had a chance to drive in the past!

I am a big fan of Mazda and have had my own in the past. It sounds like the gas milage was as good as the comfort. My son is a basketball player and fan so we need to go to Springfield too.

Legroom is so important when you regularly have people in the back, especially if they have any height like your son. When I was shopping for a third row vehicle years ago there wasn’t a single car on the market that had a reasonably sized third row.

So glad you posted this. I have been strongly considering getting a new car, and Mazda was on my list. I love this! The trunk space is perfect for my accessories when I have installations

That looks like a great ride. A good day out riding around is great for bonding time with the kids. They can’t get away from you! LOL

My dad had a CX9 for years. He always talked about how much he loved it.
