I’ve made a conscious decision after watching some scary documentaries on Netflix about our food consumption and research on longevity. I decided to take what I feel works for me and adopt New Healthy Habits in the upcoming months.
New Healthy Habits
Since I’ve mentioned the documentaries, I will start by sharing them so you check them out for yourself:
Watch to Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones
Travel around the world with author Dan Buettner to discover five unique communities where people live extraordinarily long and vibrant lives.
My take on this documentary is that by adopting some of the daily practices common to all areas, you are possibly increasing your chances to live longer & healthier.
My mom is 80 and super healthy and I compared the habits with hers, so I’m adopting some on both lists.
I will be talking about some of them later and the ones I have decided to adopt.
You Are What You Eat
In a scientific experiment, identical twins adopt different diets and lifestyles for 8 weeks to see how food impacts the body.
I must say I’m not planning on going vegan or vegetarian with my Keto Lifestyle, I couldn’t anyway, but my plan is definitely to increase my vegetable consumption!
I will share more next!
New Healthy Habits I’m Adopting:
Eat More Vegetables & Fruits
Don’t get me wrong, my diet is already very healthy, but after watching the two documentaries, I decided to experiment with things I have not tried before.
You remember I fast 16:8 – Intermittent Fasting which makes me only eat after 11:30 AM every day. I also end my meals at 6:30pm at the latest, so I need to make the best during the short interval where I’m having my meals.
Here ARE some of the vegetarian/vegan practices I will be adopting:
Eat More Vegetables & Fruits
I look at my plate and 2/3 are now vegetables.
I use EVOO instead of butter
I cook the vegetables less to preserve the proteins and nutrients
There’s at least one vegetable in my meals, so lettuce and tomatoes are my best friends at lunch time.
Cabbage and Kale are my best friends also on salads. All raw, which is the best way to consume it!
Fruits (just berries for me) – I add them to Keto Yogurt and/or to Yogurt Parfaits with Keto Granola.
My snacks are more like 1/3 cup of nuts or whole wheat keto crackers. Coconut clusters with dark chocolate. Things I love which make a great mid afternoon snack.
Eat Less Meat
My goal is to reduce red meat intake to once/twice a week tops! I also want to reduce the size of my chicken, turkey, fish and pork portions.
Portions went from 6 oz to 4 oz .
I am removing hot dogs and reducing the consumption of cold cuts and ham, which are keto friendly.
Both documentaries emphasize the relationship between processed meats and cancer, so why take a chance?
I used to eat hot dogs on a keto bun weekly, no more!
Add Vegan Products
I looked for some of the brands shown on the “you are what you eat”, like Miyoko.
I bought the products below and these are some thoughts:
Miyoko’s Butter
Miyoko’s Cream Cheeses
I did not like the butter for cooking; how fast it burns when I use it to cook but it’s great on toast.
I love the cream cheese, the plain and the cinnamon raisin! Soooo good!
My goal in adopting these products is to add some plant based products into my life and also to reduce dairy which causes inflammation without compromising my carb count.
My plan is look for the cheeses and try them next month.
Depending on how much you use them, they are all super Keto Friendly.
Reduce Caffeine
Even though there’s a famous Harvard Study which links coffee consumption to good heart health, I’ve noticed lately that if I drink coffee after 3:00PM, I don’t go to sleep until late hours.
The habit of drinking multiple cups of coffee through the day is also not a good one. So when I crave a warm beverage after lunch, mid afternoon or after dinner, tea is my go to option, just making sure that if it’s at night it’s also decaf tea.
Tea is not only healthier but it also has healing properties.
I received two tea samples from Majestea and I am loving them! Love the loose leaves and aroma!
Indulge in small-batch grown teas that set higher standards than mass-produced options.
What do you think of the healthy changes I’m adopting? Do you like my New Healthy Habits?
Not ready to start? Save for later!
I can’t wait to hear from you!
As usual, give us a Trendy Shout!

I will watch “Live to 100” – it sounds like a good documentary. Incorporating more fruits, vegetables, and plant-based options into my meals is important for maintaining a healthy diet.

I know that I need to eat more fruits and veggies but they are pricey. I don’t make a ton of money so I have to stick to a strict budget. I need to start buying frozen veggies again. I like them so much better than canned goods.

Your mom looks great for her age. You offered some real advice that i believe I may take and eat more fruit and veggies myself. Thanks for sharing

I may just need to check those shows out. I’m always wanting to be healthier. Shows like that can be helpful too.

Those vegan products look good. I will have to buy them when I go shopping.

I do try to eat more healthy foods. I enjoy fruits and veggies. They’re just so dang expensive these days.
I will have to try that tea!
