The holidays evoke that feeling of alegría, a Portuguese and Spanish word that translates the true spirit of the holidays to my family and I, because it means joy, a feeling shared all over the world during this time of year.
To me, alegría is shown through the joy of gathering with family and friends, of cooking our favorite dishes, buying gifts for loved ones, planning special holiday inspired day trips, and getting our homes ready to share that warm feeling. That feeling that comes from the heart!
I want to share with you some of my favorite things and some of my favorite traditions.
I often cook dishes from my home country; they are usually a huge hit because I get to share the tradition behind each dish! My absolute favorite is the farofa, a side dish, guaranteed to garnish your holiday table with Latin spice!
Farofa Festiva (Festive Cassava Flour)
Ingredients
2 cups of cassava flour
1 stick of butter
1 onion diced
salt to taste
1 fried egg cut in small pieces
10 green olives cut in small pieces
Preparation:
Fry one egg and cut it in small pieces. Melt butter, sautéed onions in it, add flour slowly until mixed and salt. Remove from the stove and add fried egg, olives, mix it and set in a dish and serve it.
Step 1: Separate 2 cups of Cassava Flour
Step 2: Saute 1 diced onion in one stick of melted butter:
Step 3: add Flour
Step 4: Mix all ingredients
Step 5: Add the fried scrambled egg
You can use a variation, like I did and add a sautéed, sliced mild sausage to the mix for a more festive look!
*You can purchase the cassava flour at any Brazilian specialty store.
Every year we plan some special light sightings, visiting my favorite garden in PA and this year, we added a very special trip to NYC to the Glade® Museum of Feelings!
The Museum of Feelings is a free interactive experience built to showcase the powerful connection between scent and emotion. I can’t wait to explore it with my family so see how Glade® fragrances can be brought to life and inspire different emotions and feelings. Many of the scents that will be only display at the museum truly define the spirit of the Holiday season.
The Museum is located at Brookfield Place in New York City and is open from Nov. 24 – Dec. 15. On Monday thru Saturday, it is open from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
One of the really unique experiences at the Museum of Feelings is the Moodlens Experience. Glade® will be getting those at the museum to create a Moodlens selfie that reflects your mood. At the Moodlens kiosk, you can even print the picture on scented paper to keep, how awesome is that! You can also submit your photos to the Living Gallery. This “Living Gallery” gives updates around the community’s mood/emotions as a whole.
The best part is that even if you cannot make the trip to the Museum of Feelings in person, you can create a Moodlens online at www.TheMuseumOfFeelings.com and share out the Moodlens on your social channels.
I can’t wait to create mine, hope to see yours as well!
Also, before you leave the museum, don’t forget to purchase one of
Glades® premium candles, which are a great gift for the holiday season!
Visit Glade’s Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/gladelatino) for more info!
Or on Twitter!
Glade® candles are a great way to decorate the house, bringing the holiday spirit to every corner! I especially like to have them lit during our holiday open house! Each candle represents the years I’ve been living in the US and, is therefore, a symbol that unites traditions from my home country with new ones, I’ve adopted here!
These are the Glade® candles I’ve chosen from this season’s Glade® Winter Collection:
1. Be at Peace™ – Balsam Fir & Juniper Scent, which propels me to think on the love and serenity all around us.
(I also purchased the automatic spray unit for our powder room, the busiest place in the house, during holiday season!)
2. Cherish the Present™ – Apple Cinnamon Scent , which brings that warm feeling of gratitude and love
I bought the candles at Walmart, thought you would like to also get some Glade® coupons and buy yours:
