I was invited to travel to LA for the press event for the movie The Star. It was such an amazing experience which I will be sharing with you in two different posts!
Today I want to share all about the movie, hoping you will go to the theaters this weekend to watch it!
Just imagine the story of the birth of Jesus told through a whole new set of eyes – the animals! The animal’s stories are woven into this magical adventure with biblical proportions.
Villains, action, biblical passages very faithful to the original and an amazing soundtrack invite you to be immersed into this beautiful Christmas tale.
A stellar cast, which according to the director Timothy Reckart, was a dream come true, since every actor who was the production’s first choice for each character, accepted the role to be a part of it.
Such an amazing cast brought together the Bible’s Christmas story, seamlessly blending bible verses with a current and fresh approach to a story we all know so well. For me, it was like seeing it for the first time, imagining the animals playing a pivotal role in the most important story of mankind.
The story starts with the donkey who will take us on this adventure, where birds, dogs, camels, sheep, a goat and a cow help tell the story in a fun and exciting way!
Inspired by the Nativity story, The Star follows Bo the donkey, who dreams of escaping his duties working for the village miller and finding new adventures in the outside world. One day he manages to escape and eventually teams up with Ruth, a sheep who’s lost her flock, and Dave, a dove. The trio begins an action-packed journey to follow a star that’s leading them toward young, pregnant Mary and her husband, Joseph, who’ve been forced by royal decree to travel to Bethlehem. Meanwhile, King Herod’s henchmen, armed with a few scary animals, are searching for Mary, but Bo and his friends are ready to protect her unconditionally!
The Star manages to beautifully balance the biblical aspects of the Nativity story with the light elements associated with animated talking-animal movies.
Some of my favorite moments are:
The relationship between Mary and the donkey and his role in helping her, making sure he would do anything possible to keep her safe;
Oprah as the wise Camel is truly priceless;
And the love – hate relationship between Joseph and the donkey and their hilarious face off.
You know how much I love music, so I really love how the story comes together, rocked by an impressive sound track with names like Mariah Carey, Kelsea Ballerini, Fifth Harmony and Casting Crowns. The plot to take you on this journey to experience the miracle of the birth of Jesus in a way you’ve never seen before is very exciting!
Here is a trailer, so you can check it out:
I hope you bring your family and friends to see it! As a Christian, it’s great to see an animation movie telling the most amazing story of humanity in a way that people of all ages will connect with!
The Star Opens in Theaters Nov 17th!
Can’t wait to hear what you think and to take my family to watch it this weekend!
