My health goals have exercise on top of my priority list! You know I’m Brazilian, so cold and Trendy Latina don’t go hand in hand when you talk about working out!
Last year, I stopped working out in October, my gym room was cold, a mess, I didn’t really feel like even stepping in there, since my home photo studio and my social media books and coaching materials are all housed in the same space.
I decided to spruce up my home gym, since my bike broke! And seeing as I was finally starting the renovation process, it also produced me with the perfect opportunity to invest in some new equipment, such as the best bike trainer stands for indoor cycling; giving me no excuse to stop exercising when the weather is bad. But I had some other things that I wanted to incorporate into my gym first. So I want to share my transformation with you, hoping it will inspire you to set your home gym up, because after all, this is a #noexcuses season!
How To Set Up An At Home Gym You Will Love
Making Space
I have a very large room at home, which is now serving many different purposes, but offers the space I need to workout at home and feel good about it!
If you don’t have a guest room or a room like mine, find a corner in the basement, a place in your child’ s play room for your ME TIME! Make sure you have enough space to move around, bring weights, use the floor and follow a basic circuit routine.
Organizing Your Space
I moved all the clutter out of my workout space and reserved a special space on the bookshelf for weights, ball and jumping rope.
Invest in New Equipment
Nothing gets you going more than trying out new equipment. Depending on what exercise you are interested in doing, new equipment, whether it’s a new treadmill or a Century BOB XL, could help you achieve your fitness goals. For me, I wanted something that could keep me on the move, so I bought a new elliptical/bike combo. However, for those who cannot afford to buy new equipment, there are companies that provide gym equipment hire. Now there’s nothing stopping you from working those muscles!
I also bought a new TV and was tired of wires hanging on my wall, so the solution was the Legrand In Wall Power Kit, which basically made those wires disappear!
It offers Easy routing of TV power and HDMI cable in-wall, with no electrical wiring required.
It was so easy to install!
Using the tool in the kit to work on top part:
Then used the tool to complete bottom part:
This is all you see after the project is completed! In just 20mins I had a brand new 32″ LED TV in my wall with no wires, mess-free! With all this new equipment and the new TV, my home gym was looking a lot better, however, there is a lot of expensive stuff in this gym so it does put me a little on edge about the security of my home as it would look like a prime time for burglars to take their pick. I have thought about how to build up security for my home and I had someone recommend a service similar to Campbell Window Film’s security screens to take a look at, so I may have to ease my mind by adding this in.
You can have an idea on how to install, by watching HERE!
Now, let’s look at other Home Gym Basics or not so … :
Music
Music gets me going, so I have my wireless sweatproof headphones and a voice-controlled speaker! After all gotta keep shaking when your body says otherwise, right? What’s on your playlist? I subscribed to a service that has workout playlists in it, to avoid boredom!
You will need a set of Weights and Gloves to avoid damaging your hands
Step
Mat
I actually own three mats. One with more protection, which I use for Yoga, the one below for the HIIT circuits and a third one for series which I have to move on top of the mat a lot, to avoid slipping.
Small fridge to house water and special workout drinks
Threadmill
I know what you’re thinking! How am I going to be able to afford all that? Trust me, it took me a while to purchase all the equipment I have. I still have a punch bag and a weight bench on my wish list! Agreed this is somewhat of an elaborate gym room setup, but even a modest home exercise arrangement is going to require a certain financial investment. And if you do not have necessary savings then you may have to consider the prospect of borrowing in Ontario or wherever it is you reside.
Motivation
If you want to get started, I would say get a good program, a circuit or HIIT type of program you can follow at home. Some of them are so easy, you will only need a mat, you can use chairs and water bottles as the weights to follow it! It’s important to do different things to stay motivated! Trust me, I know the feeling of wanting to be in shape, but being tired of the same old tread mill time!
Sometimes I just bring my equipment to my deck for a change of scenery and fresh air! What’s important is just to keep moving!
I hope you enjoyed my tips and can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it! Let’s do this together! Getting healthier at home is the easiest way when you have a hectic schedule like me and maybe you too!
I wanted to share, if you like how neat, pretty and organized my TV is, you can find the Legrand In Wall Power Kit at Best Buy!
As usual, give us a Trendy Shout!

These are awesome ideas! I have always wanted and preferred an at-home gym rather than going to one and having people watch you! However, I never really knew how to go about it. I’ll have to keep these in mind, thanks fro sharing!

You have a nice little exercise area. I have space for it too. I have some kettlebells, weights, a yoga mat and a bike currently. They are all helpful for me.

One thing that I don’t like about working out at home is my setup. It’s horrible. That’s probably why I am not motivated to work out at home. I need to re-configure it to have better entertainment so my work out will bore more fun rather than a chore.
Aishwarya Shenolikar
You’re such a pro at this! It would be so difficult to set up an At-Home Gym; no matter how convenient it would be! I really loved your ideas of how you plugged TV in there.. all the equipments look great.. music is always essential as well!! 🙂

We have a very small house and there is no room to have a home gym. We struggle to do Zumba in the living room! When we move, we would love to do this. Great ideas!

That is a nice setup. I go running and then do weights at home. So my kettlebell weights are under the sofa and I have a pull-up bar in the laundry room.
Ashley
I wish I had the space to create a workout space here at home. I have the Legrand in-wall power kit too and love that it hides all my ugly wires!

I need to set up a home gym. We have a little room upstairs so I might have to pick up an elliptical one year. And yes, I always need music when I work out. It helps dull the pain.
Danielle
These are great tips, and the couldn’t have come at a better time! I’ve been thinking about setting up a home gym in our extra room. Thanks!
Stacie @ Divine Lifestyle
That’s a great setup, and these are great tips. I think it’s important to have a television in any home gym. You have to be entertained while you’re doing cardio.
Melissa Chapman
I know you say the TV set up is easy but I get scared when I have to hook up electronics, but it looks so good. I never liked working out at home but your gym makes it worth trying.
Jeanette
That looks a whole lot neater than what my TV looks like! I would love to make it so that I don’t have wires everywhere. I’m gonna tell my husband about this and see if he wants to get it.
Sarah Bailey
If we had room I would love to set up a little gym area somewhere where I could just spend a few minutes a day and hopefully help my pain a little.
